I think the issue is twofold. Firstly, financially I think he likely can afford it for this season and he knows that if we get promoted he'll have more chance of getting his profit next season. He wants out but having installed Rodwell its not like he even needs to come to Sunderland again, he can sit in Oxford and wait it out.
The other issue is that in football you get a lot of fantasists, he probably thinks he can get his desired price because he'll keep having people like Storey suggesting they will pay it but never actually providing proof of funds. He probably keeps thinking the next person will produce the funds and he'll ride off into the sunset. He can't keep us long at this level, but I doubt he'll bail out for a loss now, which is likely why FPP are unlikely to buy this time, they aren't going to increase from what they thought it was worth last time
I suppose there's always the "what if...." scenario we all have but in this case just on a grander scale.
