My other caveat the other way is that if we take off the optimistic goggles, there’s no way these negotiations go on this long if he’s signing.

he will be going to the highest bidder and it’s clear as day. I’m just surprised he’d be choosing which bidders to listen to before he knows what division we are in

mind you whilst I think he’d do a job in the prem - if we did pull off the promotion I’d be more than happy to be rid of anybody who fancies a pay rise elsewhere. Especially if they’re willing to drop a division to get it
Its Maja all over again, the longer it goes on the less likely he is to sign.

I can’t remember the details but they’re now able to start spending the ridiculous amounts of money they have
I can't remember what it was either. Maybe a loan (back to the Coates family <laugh>) was paid up and off the books or something like that.

what I find weird about it all is I’m pretty sure even his extension option by the club hasn’t been taken up yet (by that I mean announced as taken up)
Absolutely nothing has been announced by safc officilly about his contract being extended by the extra year.

Hopefully that's more down to how much wedge he gets based on what division we're in. Might not be but would seem fair to TM in some ways, wee PL payrise

One of the things to me this season that has brought about our success is the "young lads" all want to play for the club. If you have someone in amongst this can see his future at a team like Stoke....if the rumors are true....I would let him go. Totally understand if a big club comes in and offers a deal we can't refuse.....but Stoke ffs really? We have gave him a platform to show his talents.....we might only be a few games away from the Premier League and he wants to go to Stoke. Too tired of mercenaries in the past not wanting to step up and put in a shift for our club. If any player cannot match the passion and commitment the fans show (they pay these guys wages right?) let them move on.....quickly. Anyone can be replaced......as we have shown this season through all the injuries we have had to overcome.

Have ten likes mate! All just speculation at the moment of course

Stewart signing for Stoke would also require such a large fee that it would be seen as outrageous for Stoke to be spending it anyway - so that it will immediately signify to everyone exactly what’s happened in terms of motivations.
True. (Not that I know the figures) but 10m players cost 10m pound player wages and their agents charge 10m pound player fees.

that’s the one! Yes they have one season to spend like maniacs and hope it works.

the issue is the maniac bit. :D
Would hate to think we ran like that. 1 year of possible fun follwed by 2 years of misery. No thanks.

What I would say is the Coates family are clever business people. I doubt they would make the same mistakes twice, but when it comes to football clubs you never know...

It's a tough one. TM has worked wonders no doubt, but everything I've read about this guy indicates he's the real deal. Would we want to miss out on potentially the next De Zerbi due to a sentimental attachment to TM? With the way the club is run now, I'm not so sure.

Besides, it may be that there's an agreement between the club and Mowbray that he'd only ever be in charge for one year. Maybe we've had our sights set on Farioli since Neil was since in charge and Mowbray came in knowing full well he was effectively an interim until this summer. Maybe he's agreed a move "upstairs". **** knows, but whichever way the club decide to go, I will trust them 100%. They've got just about every other decision up til now right.

How can there be a ‘next De Zerbi’.

Blokes gonna into a fully built and formed team that was already performing and folk are building him up like he’s the new Pep.

I get what you’re saying though I really do, but let’s say this fella Is that good. Do we risk destabilising the club cos ‘bigger boys’ come and liberate him in 12-18months?

Same as you I’ll trust the club, but if it was up to me I’d want Mogga to stick around a while yet. Let’s not overlook with a full squad or less injuries he’d have taken us to the PL playing what most of us have described as ‘the best football we’ve seen us play’.

What more do we want than that exactly?

Seen it all before with Laurie McMenemy, Martin O Neil, David Moyes. TM has actually done what he’s done over this season, Fact. This new bloke Farioli is if if if if. No thanks.

In other news, lad over the road reckons Stewart will be signing for Stoke. ****ing hell on if we let him go there mind. I for one will be absolutely livid.
Is that is true, he is moving for money and money only. The lad has the ability to play in the PL, but he won't get there with Stoke.
Yes, it's a short career and this season has shown that injuries can strike at any time, but does he really want to see his career out in front of 22k fans every week, scrapping about for 10th place in the Championship?

If money is his motivator, then sell him ASAP and get as much as we can to move on. SAFC existed before Ross Stewart and it will exist and thrive long after him

Absolutely nothing has been announced by safc officially about his contract being extended by the extra year.
They don't need to. The retained list will come out a week or so after the end of the season where they will confirm the club has taken up the option to extend by a year. This is common practice

I agree. But, if we're offering him pittance then can't blame him for leaving, and imo it's poor from our board if that's the case. I know he might not be the same player but plenty of players recover from Achilles injuries. Fact is, if Ross Stewart was fit for even 6 or 7 more games this season we'd already be in the play offs, he's that good.
