For me there's about a 50% chance of us keeping Rigg for one more season if we get promoted. If we don't, I think there's about a 5% chance that he's still here. .

This lad is on a trajectory that I've never seen at close quarters before. He's making rapid improvements every single week. By the end of the season there's every chance that he's the best player in this league regardless of age.

Totally agree mate, I'm just trying to get to every game he plays ...

... a fanatical Liverpool mate, who went to Portsmouth with me, wants to go to the Watford match.

He couldn't believe how good Rigg was, never stopped talking about him.

SAFC fans love to overvalue our players haha. £40m if he has a good year is pie in the sky, imo. Dortmund reportedly paid £25m for Jude, we really saying Rigg is twice the player? He's a fantastic talent no doubt, and £20 - £30m isn't unrealistic, but noone is paying any more than that for a player with 1 full year's experience in the Championship.

If we get promoted and he stays and has a good season in the Prem, however, we could be looking at mega money...

Jude was 4 years ago though and we've seen the amount he developed and subsequently went for. Archie Gray this summer went for over £30m. I'd say £30-40m is the going rate (provided he has the season we're expecting him to).

Bang on

The lad is special, love watching him

Remember Thomas Hauser scoring being a particularly fine moment to celebrate. Absolute clogger but he kept trying. Just looked him up and he actually scored 9 goals for us which is way better than I remember.

Certainly a cult player, still remember the echo headline....which no doubt wouldn't be allowed these days, following an appearance off the bench & 2 of those goals - 'german sub sinks Brighton'

Oddly scored one goal in the first division away to Southampton & became the first german to score in the English top flight....was there to see it:biggrin:

****!!!

HITC understands that the interest in Sunderland’s Chris Rigg is intensifying with clubs now regarding him as one of the best young talents in Europe.

HITC has been told by scouts working with two of Europe’s top clubs that they regard Rigg as ‘the best young English player since Jude Bellingham’.

HITC understands that Dortmund believe that the route they could offer Rigg could be a huge draw.

Fellow German outfit RB Leipzig are also keeping close tracks on Rigg along with Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid have also been watching Rigg for over 12 months and are monitoring his progress

Little bit of pressure on if we want to see few of current lads play for us couple more years...hope we get couple more out of Rigg

I dont see Rigg leaving next summer, one after probably, but maybe not if we are in the prem. Reason being it is rare for elite clubs to rely on 18 or 19 year olds. Rigg looks like he wants to play every minute to me and be the centre of it. The other reason, and I am guessing a bit, will be Dodds. His reputation with the early career development is excellent and he can back it up. I would be amazed if he isnt producing the individual development plans for our young talent like Rigg and Watson. That will be for some way into the future imo and maybe Rigg and his family buy into that. He could leave us at 18 and endanger his learning by not playing enough, or stay here and move at 20 and walk into a Liverpool side, for example. As for moving abroad I am not so sure, he looks every bit made for the English game to me.

You can see with the serb coming in that we will likely lose 1 of our 3 midfield lads in the coming 12m. My guess Jobe

Massive part of that will be if we manage promotion or not, if we go up he might see 38 PL games for us as a quicker route to being a starter at a top club

Couldn’t be happier to be wrong

I hope he’s here for years to come.
At this moment in time Riggs intention is to stay with Sunderland and continue his development (this came from the lad himself a few days ago) he was talking to my nephew. But as you say money talks ???

IIRC we offered the maximum length of contract that you can to a 17yo at the time. When Rigg is 18 he can sign a more lucrative, longer contract. I would be very surprised if the club have not already sketched out proposals for a new contract when he is 18.

I hope you’re right…to my mind the perfect scenario is for Rigg to sign a long contract when he’s 18 and to have a release clause at a “proper” level…

not sure what that level is though…

I agree with this. Jobe will have it all planned out, absolute wonderful family and brilliant mentality and focus behind him.

I’d say that’s the route going forward. Extend them, look after them, and have a ‘2 years into 4’ window to sell.

The way Jobe has started the season, Palace likely fuming that they didn’t push it a bit, supposedly they bid around £12million, that be doubled if he keeps his start going and improves like he has.

We know he isn’t Jude but if his trajectory is similar to Jude at that slightly lower level he is an international midfielder, and his physicality will be massively appealing to clubs.

Big fan of the lad and I’d love us to get up and us be the club give these lads their PL breaks.

My personal hope for Rigg is that we get promoted this year and he gives us at least one year in the Premier league, probably helping us stay up. More would be great but money talks loudest and he will have the best of football world at his door.
He is still only 17. How many of these “big clubs” are gonna offer him regular first team football. Maybe pay him a lot mire than us but he would play mire games with us. Buy him and loan him back to us. Now you’re talking
