The fear is that Clarke becomes one of these Sander Berge types who signs for big money for low end clubs every summer. Ipswich come down, so Leeds buy him back next summer. Leeds go down, then he goes to Luton etc etc
Yes, I wonder if the real compromise that Ipswich have made is the sell on clause and Sunderland are gambling on decent wedge again next summer. Assuming we buy these two strikers we are linked to we still have cause for real optimism.

Anyone defending a decision to sell the best player in the championship for £15m really shouldn’t be calling anyone stupid imho.

It’s a message board - I’m not sure you understand how it works?

Why did no other clubs offer £16m if he's such a bargain at £15m.

Any idea?

Think it’s fair to say it’s the best it’s been run in well over a decade, short nearly ended the club, Donald and methven took a punt on a quick promotion then sell which blew up and left us languishing, we’ve had a couple of poor windows and one poor half season, we’re going in the right direction, always hurts to sell good players but we’ve got a lot of them now with hopefully more to follow shortly, we’ll be fine
18 months without a competent striker is well run? Selling the best player in the championship for £15m is well run.

we needed to show some ambition this window hopefully we still will but I’m not suede how anyone can defend selling Clarke for such a low price when you see other transfer fees.

Bite?

we all love our club but when it is being run badly I think people have a right to question it.
Its not being run badly tho is it

We have sold a very good player, for one of the highest transfer fees weve ever received

I think its the highest profit weve ever made on a player that weve signed (im sure if im wrong someone will be quick to correct me)

Clarke is 1 very good player but if we use the money to sign 3/4 players who are just the level below him itll improve the squad

Some people really dont know how football.works

I work for a team that sold their 2 best players last season, we used the money to improve our squad, some of it to sign our exciting young players to better deals n then we went n improve from the season before

Clarke is replaceable n i think getting 20 million plus having a sell on clause is good business

I was told it was £30 million

Except it was 20m with basically guaranteed addons. Mate to run a club sustainably and with the model we have, these sales will happen. You didn’t see Brentford fans bitching and crying when they sold Watkins and Benrahma and they used the money to improve the squad and went up

Just broke the Clarke news to the bairn. He said don't worry dad, we just need to buy some Real Madrid players. Kroos or Modric are his suggested replacements.
My 16yo is gutted, his favourite leaving. I said I was gutted when my favourite player left (Johnston) it's just football life!! I wish him all the very best, lovely lad and a great pro.

Seeing people say that Brighton signed Ritter for £40m and Clarke was better than him last season,

so why didn’t Brighton sign Clarke then?

This is going to sound reactionary but Clarke isn’t as good as many of our fans are making out. He’s unproven at the top level and might find it hard to adapt. I genuinely think it’s a fair enough price, even if of course I’d rather more.

and it’s a bloody brilliant sale if it allows us to sign Simic with money left over.
Totally agree, it's telling that established premier league clubs aren't banging the door down to get him.

I’d take that over not having a club to support or watching Danny ****ing graham waddle about the pitch

we’ve tied down assets to longer deals, signed the experienced midfielder we were crying out for and finally look to be addressing the striker issue, I’d say that’s positive change, would be a boring world if we all agreed on everything though so not claiming my opinions is fact or better than yours

It’s not one or the other.

People also forget he has already been to the PL for a big fee and didn’t step up so ended up here. That’ll automatically decrease his price compared to the likes of others who haven’t played there yet
