Edit: As this is the Bleak Thread, Mario will be tapped up by Klopp during the warm up (or possibly at breakfast, before the game, by a Scousehampton-supporting waiter) and will take no further part in the game.

 

This is worryingly positive - or is this a double bluff, where the players look good, thus cheering up the fans, fooling the opposition into thinking they might have a game on their hands, so when we all arrive at Anfield in a funeral procession, wearing black, the Liverpool players all spend their time watching the Saints fans being depressed and Saints go into an early lead. But not to worry, we still have FF to even things up.

 

Don't know, he will probably be selected to start, what he does during the game is subject to conjecture.

 

I can confirm that he was playing in Aberdeen and survived the game unscathed.

 

......but we have essentially the same defensive players, but with VVD avaialble (and maybe Lamina - whats the latest on him ?)

 

I've predicted Van Dijk to score in the prediction league so I'm taking the credit if he does.

Aldridge says that Liverpool fans should give Virgil a good welcome at Anfield....I fully expect their fans to be annoying so he doesn't have to tell them to do that. However, he goes on to say that VVD was desperate to join them in the summer (tick) and still is (not so sure). I don't think he suddenly desperately wants to stay with us (my mother didn't raise stupid children), but a lot can happen in a season....other teams may show an interest. However, I doubt this season at Southampton has improved his profile. .

 

If Liverpool don't qualify for the Champs League (which I think is pretty likely this season, unless they win it) then Van Dijk probably won't end up there, unless he moves in January (something I don't think would happen). If they do get in the CL then he will end up there I would think.

 

Thing that frustrates me at the moment (well, one of them) is that whereas it irritated me the exodus post Poch, and to an extent during the Koeman time, because it felt like we were a club on the verge of doing something, now I can't even blame players wanting to go to 'bigger' clubs and opportunities.

What's the motivation for someone like Gabbiadini or Lemina to stay at an underperforming, average side. Where's the direction?

 

Regardless of matters on the picth, can someone sing the "We've got Van Dijk" song at the Liverpool fans, even if he isn't playing?

Lallana and Mane expected to be fit for Saturday. Apparently Mane will be assessed on Friday....with any luck he will pull his hamstring again perhaps whilst kicking Adam's Achilles.
