I didn't know either. But would suggest to me his confidence in a long-term situation is pretty much at the same level as ours seems to be.

Interested in your take on the situation though Vin (I see you voted to keep him in the poll).

Looking at some of the voters, there is at least one who seems to have joined the board solely to vote in this poll, and one who hasn’t posted since Nigel Adkins was sacked.

Just a thought, and don't know if its been mentioned,
if we sack Pellegrino before we have a replacement lined up then as assistant manager, Eric Black will take charge of the team. <yikes>

My fuming would become fury if we acted without having sorted something out.

This. And Pulis is available now...

Don't get me wrong - MP2's tactics, selections and substitutions mystify, bore and frustrate me in equal measure, and it does feel like he's out of his depth. But for me, to get rid of him when there are clearly wider issues with the team/club...I can't believe this is going to be an instant fix.

Somebody suggested earlier that we get shot of Black and bring in a different/better replacement to see if that makes any difference before consigning MP2 to the rubbish heap...I think there's merit in that sort of thinking.

    Because, y'know...Pulis is out there...

Don't know I'm afraid. It was phrased something like "they weren't going to traipse around Europe after him".

I've not posted for a while because I know how I'll sound but you did ask and I respect you much to ignore you...

    A word on loyalty.

I value loyalty and I believe it generally pays off. If we dump MP I predict more of the same in March with "fans" baying for the new manager's blood as he, in turn, struggles to settle in. Then probably the same next December. Anyone hoping that a new signing or two in January will make a difference is barmy. Players are overpriced (so we tend not to do major business) and, contrary to foolish expectations, players take time to settle.

The board should have stood up to the fans last season, as blackmailers never just make one demand. We seem to have discovered a deep seam of nastiness in our support that I didn't know was there. Unsatisfied with the collapse from top six to top ten they demand perfection in every respect at all times. Getting on the back of the team can never be anything but counterproductive. The jeers at Fraser when he catches the ball are shocking. No wonder his confidence looks shot. Booing, yes booing, Nathan when he runs onto the pitch is disgraceful.

To be honest, if a top ten finish and cup final results in sacking for Puel, we're doomed to be on the merry-go-round of managers forever like every other club in this miserable, tawdry, corrupt, defiled, money-grabbing league. Over half of the managers have been in post for under two years. No-one, literally no-one, would run a business like that: why should football be any different? I thought we might be reasonable and show a bit of loyalty but it's a forlorn hope.

Look at Dyche. He's been loyal, his club's been loyal. They deserve each other and anyone (plenty on this and other threads and on Everton threads and West Ham threads) who tries to pry them apart deserves a good, hard poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

I'll be very surprised if Onionman Jr and I renew next season. I'm just not enjoying the games. About 5% of that is the football. 95% is the fans. They are the ones who make me dread going into the ground, not the players or the manager. I can live with **** football; I grew up watching Sheffield United in their darkest, bleakest days as they collapsed through division after division. I can't bear disloyalty.

Sorry if this sounds a little bitter but that's because I'm feeling pretty damned bitter. **** everyone and everything.

    Vin

I actually think we may have dodged a bullet with Silva. He is clearly trying to wriggle his way into the Everton job, can you imagine the outrage if he was doing that from here?

Agree completely with all of this (except the Sheffield United bit).

Ok I've finally made a decision. If the poll is should he go this minute then no. I still haven't got to that point but I'm getting there - ask me again next week! I don't think it's all his fault and can't see it having a massive effect. The whole club seems to have lost it's way. Maybe that has something to do with the takeover and putting everything on hold. The main problem is goals and to be honest I'm not sure even if we were constantly bombing down the pitch that we would score. The players don't seem confident and some fans should take a look at themselves in this respect. I would like to know who decided it was a good idea to sell a striker and loan one out without a replacement when we already couldn't score. If we knew what the plans were for January it might be easier to make a decision but I live in the hope that he might just be trying to get us there without too much damage. He is clearly more patient than we are.

I would not be happy if we got rid of him without a replacement walking in the front door as he exits the back.

And I in turn totally respect and understand what you’re saying there Vin.

My only problem is that I genuinely don’t think MP2 is terribly good (and you know me well enough to know I hate that fan response of booing/jeering too).

But this is the catch 22 atm with Saints. Anyone the fans deem good enough to be here gets poached by bigger clubs. Anyone who is about the level we are at currently the fans want out as they want to progress. Can't have it both ways really. I am not saying Pellegrino is our level, I think it is too early to make a call on him but think he will be gone after the Everton game if we lose because football.

I can understand why some are blaming the lack of goals on the players “not being good enough”, but for me the blame falls on MP’s shoulders.
I don’t think changing the players would make much difference, if they are playing (IMO and I have nothing to back this up other than Romeu’s recent comment about being expected to defend, even when we are attacking, and what I see with my own eyes) to the manager’s orders.
Salah’s second goal, Saturday, wouldn’t be scored by our wide players, because they don’t make those runs across and through the CBs, as he did. They are too busy holding their wide positions and I can’t imagine any player replacing either of them would be allowed to play differently.
I’ve said it before, and I will keep on saying it, until Les gives me the job, that we are too rigid and structured in attack. There are no random movements, with no players being where defenders don’t expect them to be - usually in their pockets.
We need to have good structure, when defending, with everyone knowing their own role within the team, but when we are attacking, everything should be off the cuff.

Agree with almost every word. I hope you do renew though, we need all the real support we can get.

Also, I'm not sure where you sit, but I may need back up in the Chapel if I keep getting in shouting matches with the boo-boys behind me ;). Unbelievably, some guy said to me after the Burnley game, that he had a right to boo, because he had been coming to every game for 2 years.

You mention losing our way....that is what Puel said recently. He wasn't slagging us off....but said we were unstable with the Gao purchase in the offing when he was here. The fact that we let strikers go suggest that they weren't considered good enough and/or we needed to cut the wage bill.....or, long shot here, we are signing a striker in January.

As for not letting a manager go without one in the offing....I agree with that, but do you remember the moral outrage when we had obviously signed Poch before sacking Nigel. That outrage soon passed.
