Cheers for the response. <ok>

I thought that the majority were against, but that's only based on this forum, so if you're telling me on a matchday it's different, I can only take your word for it.

It really isn't.

Every matchday our fans sing 'City Til I Die' at 19 minutes and 4 seconds (we were founded in 1904) as a protest. Every game without fail it's the loudest song of the day and joined in with by the most people. At away games it's a sight to behold, there's more people with 'City Til We Die' protest scarves held aloft than without.

This forum has a few people who just like to be contrary, a few who live thousands of miles away and don't really understand, and one or two who are just plain stupid. I've yet to meet a single person in favour of the name change in real life. I've heard a few callers on our local radio with the same old "It's his club, he can do what he wants' argument but not one person in real life. I go to most away games and all home games and I've yet to notice anyone there refusing to join in with the protest songs. The club have now started hiding the clock on the scoreboard at home games around 19 minutes to try and thwart it, but it doesn't work.

A few thoughts on Assem Allam's absurd bid to turn Hull City into "Hull Tigers":

* I despise this increasingly popular notion of "It's his club, so he can do what he wants". Many clubs across Britain have fallen into unsuitable hands because the rules aren't tight enough. Allam actually appears to be one of the better ones -- long association with Hull, long history of philanthropy in the area, invested money to stabilise and taken the club forward -- but but no amount of money should entitle him, after three years, to decide on a whim that he wants to change the club's name. Venky's Rovers? Gazprom Chelsea? Abu Dhabi City? Sports Direct United, No, no, no, no.

* A lot of clubs, including Arsenal, Everton, Manchester City, West Ham etc started out with other names. Yes, but those changes were in the early years of their existence when they were trying to work out who/what they were and what they represented -- just like bands change names when they're setting out. Hull fans wouldn't pretend that their club has the most evocative name in English football -- or even the worst nickname (it's not like becoming the Fulham Cottagers ...), but a club's name shouldn't be changed 109 years later on the whim of the latest owner, especially when ....

* people need to look beyond Allam's spiel about how "City is a lousy identity" and how "Tigers" will turn Hull into a huge commercial force in Asia. Allam feels that "City is a lousy identity" because he's in dispute with Hull CITY Council over the freehold to the KC Stadium. It's not a coincidence. Perhaps some potential fans and sponsors would be seduced by the "Tigers" thing, but it's an insult to the intelligence of Asian fans to suggest that something as superficial as that -- or the colour red in Cardiff's case -- would have them changing allegiance to Hull/Cardiff rather than one of the big Champions League clubs. And it's an insult to local fans in Hull to pretend that this is all about global marketing.

* Allam has threatened to walk away if the FA don't agree to the name change. What an appalling message to send out: it's my ball and I'm taking it home. He "owns" the club, but English football needs to discourage this extremely unhealthy idea that an owner has the right to do whatever the hell he likes. Look at Coventry (victim of another rent dispute between owners and local council) playing in Northampton in front of meagre crowds. Look at what became of Wimbledon. Where does all this end? It should never reach the stage where owners have the power to act unilaterally like this. A name change (or a change to the kit) might seem trivial in the grand of scheme things, but it's a wider battle and one that all fans should be on board with. See The Football Supporters' Federation and Supporters Direct.

* It comes down to the FA Council to decide whether or not to ratify this name change. That shouldn't fill anyone with confidence, but if there's one thing the FA Council should be capable of, it's standing in the way of what they're being told is progress. "Hull Tigers" isn't progress. It's a total nonsense. A lot of this current crop of owners need to be reined in -- yes, even some of those who help dreams come true. This is one opportunity for the FA Council to justify its existence and say no.
Here's a piece I wrote on the matter last month.

Wimbledon becoming MK Dons springs to mind.
Where were the FA when that was decided?
be thankful that we aren't moving 100 miles away

Unless Paul Duffen or Martin Fish are among the regulars on here, I don't quite get the parallel.

Can't say I'm surprised you don't get it. Let me explain - poster after poster present themselves as experts ................ Sorry just lost the will, ask your Mam.

Whilst others present themselves to be dim witted bastards. Let me explain ............Sorry just lost the will, ask your Dad, oh difficult, sorry.

Spend some time reading the history of Wimbledon and MK Dons and you'll realise that it wasn't as simple as that. I'll give you a clue, the FA opposed the move but lost control of the process. A mistake they haven't made this time.

PattyNchips2, I would check your ISA after a time they return back to 0.5%. I am with Santander and as far as I know they nor anyone else is offering 5%

I fear my point flew over your head - namely, none of the posters on here have run the financial affairs of the club in the past, so their financial acumen (or lack of) has nothing to do with the club's financial fortunes (or lack of).

Do you want a JCB to compliment that shovel?

We needed Allam's millions because Bartlett ran up debts of £30 million. Allam has run up debts of close to £100 million and his money is running out. If he or his family want the money back Hull City will cut its spending sell its players and reduce the loan.

Bartlett got City to borrow the money to fund its everyday expenditure, Assem Allam appears to be borrowing the money against Allam Marine's assets. Eventually the line of credit runs out and then the piper requires payment.

The next published accounts of Allam Marine and Allamhouse will make interesting reading.

IF it was all about making money Mr Allam would have started a pay day loans company and charged a hell of a lot more in interest .

I really wish I had bought a stack of lambrettas 25 years ago when you could pick them up sub £200

What's the point you're making here? No one's pretending to be capable of running the country, there are just several people who know what they're on about explaining their view on the situation. If you can't understand it just ask for an explanation.

Sorry, I will try to explain myself. Many poster's on this site portray themselves as being financially astute and are not shy about offering advice, therefore they could have solved Hull City AFC's money problems prior to Mr Allam coming in. Failing that they could offer a change sound economic alternative to a name change (by the way I am not convinced a name change is the answer either, but have no expert or inside knowledge). They will certainly be able to put forward some investment package or other to buy him out and still maintain the level of investment at it's current level.

This level of expertise would be invaluable to the Chancellor.

OK I confess I might have been a little sarcastic!

OLM you say there are 13000 on the petition, if you and your group can prove to the FA that these are all genuine season ticket holders/fans who have been to more than just one game (not certain how you would do that last bit, but how does anyone prove who is a fan if there is to be a vote) and not just people you've met down the pub - which your opposition at the KC boardroom will claim, then that will be a solid foundation to your case against the name change

They're not season ticket holders, it's an open petition, anyone can sign it.

We can only prove that 10,000 people attending City games have taken flyers, 10,000 people attending City games have taken campaign badges, Over 1000 have bought scarves and over 1500 have paid into a membership scheme in the past six weeks.

I know that there are business owners, accountants, solicitors, marketing and IT professionals who all post on here. Assem Allam could learn a thing or two from CTWD, they exploit online media to the full and as a team have produced enviable marketing strategies. In a race to get your message across I doubt if there are many companies who could fair better. I may not agree with everything that is posted on here, but I have to admit that they manage to get their message across clearly and other supporter groups, not only in this club but around the UK could learn from them.
So could an investment plan be put together by supporters, I don't think it would be accepted by Assem Allam, even if it paved the way to multi million pounds worth of investment, he does not consider football supporters to have the business acumen needed and will not listen.

RIGHT when I was on that balcony I sang city till I die and nowt will ever change but what MR hallam is doing is out of our control fact.

You won't get a job without getting his name right Deano. <laugh>

Look at his attempt to convince everyone we are currently called Hull City Tigers; why has he done that? It’s not because he wants that to be our name, nor is it – by his own admission – because he thinks that particular name will help bring in more revenue this season. It is because he wanted to let us proles know nice and early that if we didn’t like the idea of Hull Tigers then we couldn’t do anything about it. A kind of, “if you think you can stop me, watch this… Tada! I’ve just taken the AFC away, and that’s just for starters! (Oh, OK, I haven’t really, because I’m too ****ing ignorant of the rules to work out how, but don’t tell anyone)”. It’s like a kidnapper cutting off someone’s little finger and sending it to their victim’s family in the post. Only, in this case, the kidnapper’s a bit thick and he’s actually cut off and sent a rubber finger from the joke shop by accident.
