Same here, and glad I did after that comment the players were unhappy with the booing after the Plymouth game.
There's been a change in society and that's reflected in football support. It used to be that ‘support through thick and thin’ was praised and something to be proud of … … now it’s not uncommon for fellow supporters to mock you for being ‘a happy clapper’ as if you’re being taken for a mug. Some of the comments I’ve seen about today are quite bitter and nasty … weird.
Agreed. Went to roker for 16 years. Watched some utterly awful games, where the crowd just got behind the team regardless. Wish it was still like that. The SOL in its earlier days had a great atmosphere. Hopefully we get one today
Dont worry lads. I am not going today so cant spoil it by leaving early, if I chose to of course. Ironically I would have chosen to stay for the lap of appreciation.
Not going today, but I always stay until the end - Planning on going to both play off games and hopefully to Wembley.
Agree Smug. I have always said that I would support Sunderland, even if they played in the Northern League. My support is unconditional and I am not sure how that is now seen as a "bad" thing
Because 'you're meekly accepting mediocrity' unlike those people who courageously moan on chat forums
Totally agree with this. Some people think that purchasing a season ticket shows how big a fan you are. Sunderland didn't suddenly begin as a club when we moved into the Stadium of Light, I've got good memories of the current stadium but I still think of Roker Park as "home". Reading this forum these days, it seems that supporting Sunderland means something different to the way I think of it. I hurt when we get beat, happy for days when we win, I've even fallen out of love with the club when the Donald **** show was in full flow but it never stopped being MY team. I'm happy with the way things are at the moment, even though results on the pitch haven't been great since February. I've had the chance to see some great talents such as Jobe, Jack Clarke, Mayenda, Dan Neil and as much as I would've loved each and everyone of them to take this club to the very top, I know that's realistic in football these days but I can still be proud that the club will have had a hand in their journey - wherever that takes them
It isnt bad at all mate. But as someone who chooses to leave early sometimes, for personal reasons, I am lumped into 'early leaver category' that on here is depicted as some kind of second class fan. I wonder how these super fans, who stay till the end at home matches, would have gotten on working shift work back in the day. My Dad used to work night shift but always went to night games and took me as a bairn. We had to leave about 15 mins before the end to make his shift. Nobody said anything about it in those days. Supporters werent so precious as they seem to be now.
I don't think there's a category you're lumped into any more than there's a 'super fan' category for people who watch the whole match. I think it's fair to say the club is gaining a reputation for the 80 minute fire drill as the QPR fans pointed out ... ... I doubt all the early leavers have the same personal reasons as yourself.
