Pardew impressed me and got me thinking with his post match comments yesterday. He talked about closing the gap on the top 4 and try to qualify for the champions league in future seasons. He rightly claimed that the only way we or any other club that either doesn't have a multi billionaire owner or doesn't put the club at finanical risk can close the gap on the top 4 is to sell for silly money every now and again and replace with two or three players.
If, and at the moment it's a big if Grenier arrives then we've had a decent window IMO. I doubt Grenier will hit the ground running and produce Cabaye type performances, I've never even seen the lad play to be honest but by all accounts he's a more natural number 10 than Cabaye and at 23 he's still young. If we then get Cabella in the summer then we've done some good business. Not only that, it is the only logical way that we can close the gap on the top four.
I just think that any negativity should be saved until the end of the summer window, I know that's a long way off but if Grenier & Cabella and possibly othetrs arrive in the summer then we're heading in a nice direction, it's just a slow journey. In the last three years I honestly don't think any Premier League team outside of Man City & Chelsea (can't include them due to silly money) has signed better than us other than Arsenal in terms of value for money.
I wouldn't say I'm happy at the moment but I'm certainly content and prepared to be patient. If we get Grenier in this window then it will completely dispel the myth that we don't reinvest in the team.
