Confident? No. There are too many mixed signals all over the place to be confident of anything - or confident of nothing.

I wouldn't be so sure if I were you.

    Clearly deluded!

    Well, maybe.

    Who knows?

    SSN:
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier may have emerged as a possible replacement for Yohan Cabaye at Newcastle, but the French club are hopeful that he will not be sold.

Grenier himself is staying focused on Lyon, but has hinted that they could be open to discussions.

"I have no idea what can be said or done at this time.At one point, the president said that if a good offer for me this winter, he would look at it. I do not know if he received an offer or not and I'm not at all thinking about it."

Agreed - the full quote from SSN reads more like he doesn't want to get his hopes up or rile Lyon fans but would be open to move if an offer was made. GFN France seem to have carefully left out the bit about his being available at the right price to put a negative spin on it. They are accurate with their French football related news but do seem to have a fairly dim view of NUFC over at GFN France... Don't like us poaching all the French players.

With the amount of players we've bought from France we must have pissed off supporters of many French teams by now. I also imagine that playing hardball with the amount we are willing to pay wont be popular either, just as it wasn't to us when low offers were put in.

We won't sign a cabaye replacement this window. Goslings back now, what more do you want?

@GraemeBailey: Sly Sports understands Newcastle United have made a 'substantial' but undisclosed bid for Lyon's Clement Grenier.

Cabs was made to play as a number 10. Grenier IS a number 10.

He looks to have a free kick like Laurent Robert - 35 yard rockets. Wicked crosses and corners. Still, this is from Youtube. He is meant to be very highly regarded though.

He looks like a great option and still young too, so could have a great future.

Whether we can actually sign him is another matter entirely though.

Could be yet another bid for somebody we simply won't get, just so the club can say "we tried, but couldn't get the deal over the line". So we're then left with a big gap where we had Cabs and the money stays in pockets.

If I'm wrong, then I'll be delighted, as Grenier, de Jong and Cabella would be a fantastic trio of signings.
