ON Tuesday night - when we went 1-0 down to QPR - I stood up and shouted - top of my voice - "Come on Sunderland" - normally there is a bit of a rousing shout like that and it feels like the crowd are urging them on - Tuesday me and my son were on our own - not a soul around us joined in.
Had we been playing Man City or Liverpool or Utd - the whole crowd would've been up on their feet even though we'd gift-wrapped the first goal with a shiny bow. Silence. I don't know if it would;ve made a difference but it certainly does against the bigger sides - you can see the players lift when the crowd gets behind them after conceding. On Tuesday we didn't - it was as if the crowd rolled over as well as the team
That's probably because we're not expecting to be humiliated by a team that hasn't won away since Stan Bowles played for them.
The bigger problem is that we all feared exactly what happened if we're honest.
And let's not just blame the home crowd, the away support at Southampton was excellent.
Who was to blame there Mr Poyet?
