That's probably because we're not expecting to be humiliated by a team that hasn't won away since Stan Bowles played for them. The bigger problem is that we all feared exactly what happened if we're honest. And let's not just blame the home crowd, the away support at Southampton was excellent. Who was to blame there Mr Poyet?
The away support is ALWAYS fantastic - I remember going to a game when I was around 13 or 14 and we were losing 5-0 and singing "We're going to win 6-5" and "We're gonna score in a minute" and cheering every kick. The home support NEVER does that - doesn;t matter how badly we play away from home we appear to have fantastic fans - at home they are all split up and there is so little atmosphere - it;s not like we've played anythign fantastic away is it? We've been pretty much as bad away as we have at home but the supporters get behind the team for 90 minutes away. I agree they need to earn it but they don;t seem to need ot earn it for away games!
This isn't like me mate, I'm fanatical home & away, but tbh I haven't enjoyed a home match this season. I was at Burnley & Leeds and, despite scraping a result, can't say there was much excitement. The SOL is like an ocean liner ........ difficult to get it moving but unstoppable when it has some momentum. The problem is that there's no coal in the engine room, at the moment, to fire things up.
The worst thing about the QPR game was the retreat to negativity in team selection, yes Gus did not have many midfield players fit, but there were better options than those he chose, everyone with a crumb of football intelligence would know we are a better team at the moment with Alvarez playing. At home in a very winnable game, he should be one of the first names on the team sheet.
Depressing reading all this. Not so much that it's SAFC being ****e, but that we are being ****e AGAIN. If we don't buck up we'll turn into Coventry and survive relegation by the skin of our teeth season after season...
I don't believe that TBH. Whilst I don't blame him for wanting the money, if that is all it's about (a) he's missing the point & (b) there's soooo much more money if we do well!
We'll I do believe it. He has spent **** all really. People say we spend in the summer but he won't. We be buying donkeys again.
Plus we been in the prem for 8 years. What have we done? Nothing, just fighting to stay up all the time.
We won't get quality in if we keep bumping along the bottom. We need a statement signing followed by replacements for some of the old guard. You're probably right about us not getting it though.
Aye spot on, if we always at the bottom then no quality will come in. It be the same old next season. Boring.
There's money going into the game that Short couldn't envisage when he bought us. the end of next season the team who finishes bottom receives 100m. More than enough for teams to improve their squads, pass savings down to fans and make a handsome profit, with that in mind spending bare minimum and putting us in danger season on season would be a demented business plan. Na mate, I think you're bang wrong. We've been tight with spends to sort our accounts, but now we'll start seeing investment should we stay up. You watch.
Football, outside the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, is knackered tbh. Sunderland, Newcastle, etc, will never again have a prayer of winning the league ........ it's finished. The owners want a steady income stream, the supporters want a rush for glory, totally incompatible. When the owners get it wrong you become Coventry or Portsmouth. When the owners get it right you become Newcastle or Everton. Not many thrills either way to be honest
We start seeing investment should we stay up LOL heard all this before pal. We will see and if iam wrong I hold my hands up. Don't think I will tho.
