Nick Powell was on fire for Wigan last night.

Looks like Spurs are clearing the decks at the moment with a few who can go. Get Jake Livermore signed up.

If contracts put in front of Jelavic & Long are as lucrative as reported, the investment in both (fees & wages) could be upwards of £30m.

That's one hell of a punt, both are going to be on £50k a week. <yikes>

Does anyone understand the impact this will have on us with the financial fair play rules due to start soon?

We may not like his approach or his style of engagement with the fans, but we can't fault the way in which he's financially backing Brucey

Assuming that we're talking fees of £7.5m for Jelavic and £7m for Long, that leaves £15.5m. Assuming Long signs for 3.5 years, like Jelavic has, that leaves £15.5m over a total of 364 weeks.

I make that an average of £42.6k pw.

Ricardo will know but its important to remember that the 30m quoted will be spread over a few seasons.

Nope, he hasn't finished his medical yet. They stopped at about 7.30pm (2.30pm in Toronto), and will resume in the morning here, probably at 8.30am (3.30am in Toronto)

So the following para is misleading in the article:

After eclipsing the club record fee to sign Jelavic from Everton for a fee that could rise up to £7.5m on Wednesday, the Tigers continued their ambitious recruitment drive by closing out a £6.5m deal to recruit West Brom forward Long.

...against what ? A rival bid ? A failed medical ? Other `scoops`? Or just the time of day ?

?? The paper is published tomorrow by which time they believe he'll be signed. Thus the article. Similar to the article the night before Jelavic announced. Not sure what you're trying to say?

Why would a club announce (assuming the statement is true) and or a newspaper (HDM) publish something (as in the web-article) before official confirmation ?

So they can get people buying the paper with the exclusive breaking news.

Trust me, as a journalist, this is what they do.

So they get the exclusive, makes people buy the paper. Honestly the paper did it two days ago with the Jelavic signing, not sure why this is confusing you.
