So they put the article on the web, hours before the `provincial` paper (Hull & district) reaches the news-stands, while all the other newspapers have seen the web-article & published in their own hardcopy & on their web-sites ? Hardly exclusive is it ? So in your earlier post you say `they believe he will be signed`....what if he doesn`t sign, and they have essentially quoted Bruce in their web article ? What I don`t understand is the stupidity of the strategy.
Ok never mind then. I just don't get why you're so puzzled by the same thing that they did two days ago.
Had I noticed that it happened 2 days ago I would have been equally puzzled. How it sells newspapers is not clear to me. Please explain how this `pre-emptive`strike accomplishes that when it`s already published on the web ?
So the paper goes to print at 5am or something like that, meaning in order to publish news for tomorrow they need to write it today. When articles are written they are put up online. So you will see a lot of articles go up at just past midnight which are printed in the following day's paper.
I understand that. Pre-emptive article you say, but not confirmed official signing. Do they hold the distribution of the article in the pressed paper until confirmed by the club & then release to the public. If the signing doesn`t happen, how do they retract the article that appeared (seemingly legit.) on the web that has gone global ? Maybe viral ? Re-printed by other newspapers ? Answer those questions then you`ll answer thel question in my original post (Ãs this article confirmation of the signing ?), which both you & Macca seem to suggest not, which to me is a stupid position for a newspaper to take. That`s all.
I didn't suggest it wasn't? I just said it was pre-emptive, meaning no he has not signed on the dotted line but that he will sign. If anything I was actually agreeing with you that he's basically signed, which I backed up by using Jelavic as an example. I think you're confusing Macca and my opinions on this.
Ok, but you both suggested it was for gaining exclusivity...which seems to me to be a bit of a risk for the newspaper to publish (on the web) before definitive confirmation statements from the club. After all this, it bloody well better be true eh mate ? Cheers
Haha yep! From the sounds of things though we're gearing up to announce it tomorrow arvo, so unless there's a problem of Charlie Austin proportions then it's all go.
All we need to do now is sign up Livermore on a permanant. Although I do think we need another central defender
Now we appear to have all but tied up the signing of Shane Long, it's time for reflection. Yes, the papers are reporting probably inflated fees which make the purchases seem pricey. Yes, the players may be risky in that there is a chance they may not set the world alight with goal scoring brilliance.. but... When you look at the teams around us fighting against relegation, now that we've sewn our signings up nice and early, who else is there of a comparable quality for anyone else to sign in that price range? Personally, I think we've done some great business and given ourselves the best possible chance of staying up. I can't see the other teams keeping up with us now.
Anyone remember that Celtic lot banging on about some young Scot who was worth more than our entire squad, and will be going for £20m odd this window? They were bloody well right and all, the big boys are all gunning for him! Off SSN: "The likes of Burnley, Peterborough and Rotherham have been linked with a move for Inverness striker Billy McKay. However, Inverness boss John Hughes says there have been no bids for McKay and he doesn't want to sell his leading scorer."
Central defence is our strongest area. Davies, Bruce, Chester McShane and Faye are all quality. We need a fast attacking midfielder who can create things down the middle rather than us constantly depending on wing play.
Sorry but no, Davies is our only PL quality defender. Chester is inconsistent, but on his day is quite good, and Bruce is capable of being good back up, but Faye and McShane are not up to the level required of a mid-table team. Bruce was harsh when we took the step up to the PL, and needs to be harsh again if we want to take the next step up.
I'm thinking of a more direct player like Gerrard and Bryan Robson used to play. We need someone who can make powerful runs into the box and centralise our attack. Aluko tends to play a lot around the penalty area and often with his back to goal.
I don't know. I was hoping someone else would have a suggestion. Ravel Morrison does look good, but he also seems quite greedy.
Morrison does not look the sort of player we'd be after, we need to avoid the money-hungry sort as that's the sort of thing that has gotten Fulham into trouble.
