We move on. Clarke became good with us, he was really frustrating to start with and had many games where he continued to be so. I’m not being revisionist but I see no reason why Mundle won’t turn out a better player for us.
Not sure why we would accept a bid now unless we know that we have some good transfer news en route tomorrow…
Accept a bid with 8 days to buy players. Or get an extra couple million in a weeks time and have no time for negotiating
doesn’t have to be tomorrow but I get your point. Mundle has a big chance on Saturday to stake his claim as a regular. Huge for him.
If Mundle, Mayenda and Jobe become very good this season do we start looking at last seasons windows as a success?
And then there's Poveda who can play either side ... ... and Roberts who's actually left footed. Perhaps with an actual CF Roberts might be better on the left.
Roberts has got his mojo back and is weirdly like a new signing. I’d keep him where he is. Mundle prefers the left wing and I think with a run of games can make a real contribution.
My initial thoughts... The sell on clause could be interesting. If it's like the Spurs one (i.e. a percentage of any profit made on a future transfer) then it might not be worth anything. But if it's a straight up 20% and he goes next summer for £40m, it would be a massive boost. It might be a bit of a trade-off if we wanted the money up front, rather than instalments. In terms of the reaction to it, can I assume that those who have been moaning for weeks about us needing a big sale are now happy, or are they the ones moaning constantly?
From a PR perspective, would be wise to leak that it’s 15 rising to 20, fan backlash over night, then leak that it’s actually higher than that, people feel like it’s more acceptable now. announce a new signing or two tomorrow. fans will be right up for Saturday even tho we’ve just lost one of our best players.
Indeed and very valid point. Had we turned it down then got, say £25-30m on deadline day, would people be happier? I’m gutted fwiw, but understand completely and wish Clarke all the best. Money is ok, but I personally think he’s worth more based on other sales, but, using my own paragraph above, better to get £15m now than £30m at 10:59 on deadline day
Does not matter what you value a player at the true value is determined by what someone is prepared to pay. Speakman and the recruitment team have done exactly what they are supposed to do find players who have an upside in value and can improve the team at the same time. This transfer window was the optimum time to release funds from JC to improve the calibre of players that we want to attract to. These funds will have helped fund the contracts for Jobe , Ballard and Rigg and secure Brown. Looking forward to seeing who comes in now.
