We are clearly after a striker, the Mendy saga shows that. We are also clearly prepared to pay money for a striker, so your point makes no sense. Let's see where we are on 1st Sept.
I think killing us is a bit far, but it certainly makes the job more difficult. That being said, success helps. If Mendy is a deal that gets done and is a success - and we’ve kept hold of all of our assets - then we’re undoubtedly in a stronger place as a club.
are we, where is your evidence mate, the only evidence we have is that french journalists were saying our offer was insulting "he's not a packet of crisps"
I am happy to stick by killing us when you factor in how easy clubs who have made sales are making signing some pretty decent forwards look while we scrap around the lower market. I'm not even sure Mendy is that good, looks strong and has a powerful shot but i'm not expecting him to be someone who takes us from midtable to promotion challengers.
Can't imagine we'd want to sell for anything less than £8-10m because of the sell on clause, but would anyone want to pay that is the question.
You’d think he was like Brazilian Ronaldo in his prime the way some have gone on about him. Probably never seen him play a full 90 minutes…
Phil Smith on his podcast just there he said it sounds like we are playing chess and aren't ready to move yet on Mendy as we are looking at other options "such as PL loans" but we are worried about how Burstow turned out. Phil Smith said he thinks we need to decide and make a move on one but can see it rolling on longer.
He just looks like a good striker for us mate, it's nowt about being a world beater he's just a signing that would make sense
You gotta look at Brighton and Brentford though. Established PL clubs with nothing like our ceiling. Brighton have been in Europe. It can be done.
Ah ok, we'll just ignore all the reports (some of which you have retweeted yourself and commented on) linking us to Mendy. We'll also ignore the owner saying we need "a striker who scores goals" so it fits your argument on here. Ok then.
It’s the net effect for me. A functional striker in our current price range, plus keeping Clarke, Jobe, Hume, Ballard, Ekwah etc leaves us in a good position imo.
