Good result - keeps us in the top 5

5th in the league after 10 games, having played 7 of the current top 10. Fantastic start to the season. Well impressed with Matete, Ba and Bennette, who gave us that extra energy we needed. Shows how far we've come when some of us are disappointed with a point away at Watford.

Well done Lads! :1980_boogie_down:

Not much to complain about with this lot, they give everything and can tell they are trying to play attacking football that is good to watch. Cause they concede doesn't mean they suddenly ****e! Noticed a certain poster on here did it twice yesterday, I can accept people saying what they think was poor or went wrong to concede but a blanket we are ****e/embarrassing comment is not needed and doesn't even fit this team.

Thinking about this squad, there's so much time for them to develop together. I honestly think if they are kept together we could really challenge for a playoff spot this year and promotion the next without needing to completely restructure if we were to go up.

Recruitment has been excellent in the main, as has the player development. They talk of a sustainable model - which seems to be laughed at - but so far they're getting it spot on.

That’s gona be the hard bit when offers start to come in for some of the young team we will see the intent of the club do they go for cash or keep this good young side together to grow ? Hopefully we go for the latter

Agree, but there's an upside to it if they sell off. It makes it more attractive to young prospects knowing there is a pathway to elite clubs by joining us. I also trust the recruitment side of the club enough to think that even better replacements could be identified if we have a decent pot of cash.

It's win win for me!

Part of the concept of the sustainable model is that there will be sales and it will be players that we'd rather see stay.

The sales will be upwards to the likes of the Prem and the monies will be used to do exactly what we just did this summer ie buy exciting young talent to nurture and develop.

The real challenge will be to continue to move forward a la Brentford.

As long as we're selling to the top clubs for top dollar that'll do me.

I wouldn't want to be developing young players only to see them go to other Championship clubs, lower PL clubs ...

... or Stoke City <laugh>

They'll go for the cash for a number of reasons and they're right to do so, in my opinion.

Some of the players we've brought here will be here because they know the plan is to give them games, develop them and move them on to bigger things. If we start rejecting bids for players that want to play at the highest level, we'll cause problems both in our dressing room and in our recruitment of new players.

We're also planning to build a sustainable club. That means selling players so we can buy. If Benette ends up being brilliant and we sell him for say £5m, then that allows us to go and invest in the next Benette, Ba, Ballard and Alese which would improve us far more than just having Benette.

That being said, hopefully we can keep the core of this squad together for a couple of years at least and have a real go at promotion with them.

You missed a couple of 00s off the fee!

I agree that the model to develop and sell is the right thing to do but only up to a point. Just look at Leicester at the moment. Once you reach a certain point you have to flip your Outlook from a development club to a serious contender and that's well prove to be the most difficult transition for the club if/when we get there

Just watched the highlights.

For the first goal Patterson couldn't come any further out as he'd have left his near post exposed.

O'Nien made a mistake for the second, Watford made mistakes for both of ours ... it happens.

And why did their first scorer come straight over to the Sunderland section ...

... why do you never have a red hot pie when you need one <laugh>

Here are some highlights from a Sunderland fan in the Watford end
- look out for the "Chris from Love Island" quote at half-time when it's all kicking off <laugh><laugh>

There appears to be a very angry old man, in a red cap, stomping around and arguing with the stewards at the front ...

...obviously not right in the head <laugh>

A few people in the pub were saying Patterson should have come for the ball on there 2nd goal but for me when you see it from behind the goal to much traffic and big lads they were he’d have got nowhere near it
