First time I had been for donkeys years about apart from odd trips when City were at Elland Road. That was the only part I saw and what a contrast from when I last saw it. Bombsites and a burn out cinema standing from W2 and the New York were bollocks, were they? Having lived in both places I would much rather live in Hull. Primarily because of the people. Far friendlier.
No those examples aren’t bollocks. But the broader point you used those examples to make about Hull, was bollocks. Just as the point I made using different examples in Leeds was equally bollocks. You were wrong.
Re Leeds list of buildings No.1 and No.5 have moved on a bit. The library having been totally refurbed (I think as a gym ?) Hunslet mill is about 60% approx. completed as flats/apartments. Bit weird cos I’ve just bought a bacon & Black pudding sarnie from the cafe opposite and thought I’d just catch up on reading 606 once I parked up further away in Hunslet.
No back pedalling (two ls). Hull is a far friendlier place than Leeds. More like a collection of small towns where everyone knows each other than the distancing large city brings.
So, out of date info to try and score a point? Development going on whilst Lord Lind and New York Hotel is still being debated. Is the Hope and Anchor still open?
The article clearly states it's from 2016, it was just to show that your assertion that Hull has had derelict buildings for decades, while Leeds didn't, was wrong. Every large city has its fair share of buildings that have been derelict for decades.
Serious question. There are people in the HDM comments section suggesting various options about the Lord Line building. One is it should be rebuilt brick by brick and out to use. Use for what? There is no call for its original use. Neither of us live in Hull so don’t have a vote regarding the council but what on earth have they been doing letting Manor Properties carrying on they way they have?
The Lord Line has some very specific issues, primarily the fact that there is no single owner of the site, three different parties own different parts of it and none want to work with the others (and two of them also have a very poor track record of developing anything). There's little the Council can do about a private individual buying private land/building and then doing nothing with it, other than taking out a CPO and they're simply not going to do that on a site with three different owners and no realistic plans for any sort of development on the site. It's a pity it can't be used as the site for the new Cruise Terminal, it would seem ideal, but apparently there are issues with the depth of the water.
Seacroft and Meanwood for others. Unless they have undergone one hell of a transformation. And Harehills.
The most impressive building, the town hall, was, as I always tell Leeds folk, designed by a bloke from Hull.
Used to be some great concerts on there. The one I would liked to have got to was the Stax Tour with Otis Redding , Sam and Dave, Booker T and the MGs...Knew someone who was in the support act in that one. The band was managed by Don Robinson who pulled a flanker in typical Robbo style to get them on.
