I still think they were complacent after their away successes and thought we’d roll over for them. Fortunately Belloumi who terrorised us in the home game wasn’t playing but they had the best offensive player on the pitch Puerta who couldn’t carry them on his own. Our defence was excellent which hasn’t been the case most of the season.
Critics of that performance are ignoring the basics. It was a game Riza set out to win at all costs, and that includes winning by not playing football. The correct side was picked for this particular game and the tactics for once were spot on. In the situation in which we find ourselves which I accept is of our own making, an ugly 3 points is far better than conceding 2 or even all 3 by trying to play what was a far better footballing side at their own game. If we'd played well but lost, there'd be a lot on here and in the media slating the club for still being below Hull and Stoke.
I agree. The defence (well 3 of them were excellent). That and poor Hull play in the final 3rd won the game. Ashford was excellent as well. Our lack of composure and passing from midfield in particular was really poor and their midfield was dominant.
