I think the club have earned our trust when it comes to getting good deals with outgoings

Whether there’s a personal agreement with Jobe or not isn’t important really because the fee will be a big one.
According to my reading of this thread the fee is £23 million

One thing that perhaps makes this less likely is that, amongst their PSR issues, United are far more desperate for a lwb that they are in midfield. They’ve spent all window trying to get a deal done for that Dorgu kid. Would expect that to be their priority in the closing days.

This is where people posting as "in the know" cause problems.

There's hints tonight that £23 million is the magic number for Jobe. This will be picked up on and within a few hours will be gospel

It's absolute nonsense.

If Man Utd were offering that there'd be half a dozen clubs instantly offering more.

100%. ‘fans’ initiating meltdowns that could destabilise our club whilst in a promotion fight.

Absolutely ridiculous.

He won’t be at a Championship club in 2-3 years.

He is worth considerably more than £23 million to us right now.

I refuse to believe we are entertaining the idea of selling this window, with where we are sat.
That's the point. He won't be here in 2 or 3 years time, its unrealistic. His contract would be up.

Therefore he's at a championship club and because of that, you have no guarantee he can step up.

I agree with what you're getting at and if we go up, that price could rocket. But if we don't go up, he'll need to leave at a reasonable fee, probably around 20.

Agree when you look at some big championship deals, you could hold out for a bit more, but that's not how we operate. How we operate gets us better players as they know they can move when its right.

For what its worth, I'd turn down that money in Jan all day long. But not from an elite club as it's not fair on the lad.

We have le fee, who if you listen to RLB today, works best in that left centre mid position

To be fair, Sunderland having players to sell is alien to our fans. We've barely sold anyone for a decent fee in my life time. We've always seemed to miss the chance to sell and improve the squad and end up letting the player run down his contract.

It's something we really need to get used to though. It's obviously not as simple as this but I love the idea of selling a player for let's say £25m every season and buying 3 players with that money and repeating the process.

Yep, same. And that money will inevitably take us up. Feel like some fans get far too invested in certain players, generally local lads. You’ve seen some of the comments tonight about Watson as if he owes his career to us because he was born up here. Forcing players to stay will only be of detriment to us when word gets out to other young lads who won’t want to sign here because we block their progression.

That PL spell when we hardly made a profit on dozens and dozens of players was pathetic. Some horrendous recruitment

Magically it's the same duo of people who arrive at the exact same time, questioning the exact same posts, liking the exact same posts.

He was. We had an injury crisis. He was only played in the under 21s. He didn't make the bench week on end. Then he did when desperate.

Haway man. Then he was loaned to Portsmouth!

The entire description of how he has been handled has been on here , all the way though. It's accurate to the timeline of him moving on too.

Like Watson and Mundle?

Were they banished?

Aouchiche hasn't lef the club and may not ...

... if RLB had the problem with him, you claimed, he'd be sold and gone.

Agree with you both. If we have agreements with most of young players and in jobes case it's 23 million and apparently common knowledge at the club then we are in trouble and trouble that we don't need at such a crucial time of the season

He is the only one who has been moved on. Quickly too. Think on that.

Said it earlier about Brighton, they really buy in to being a stepping stone and it makes them so attractive for players. It's hard seeing players leave but there's always new players to come in and love.

Don’t agree with this mate. We’re all adults on a forum discussing our club and most of us come on here for some crack and a bit of info about Sunderland that we wouldn’t get otherwise. If people choose to have a meltdown over information that someone who knows more than they do offers then that’s on them.

Obviously a few different camps in terms of attitudes when we lose etc some of us lose it easier than us but in general there’s really good, knowledgeable posters on here whether that’s Sunderland “ITK” shyte, players were linked with, deciphering and analysing matches etc. I for one am certainly grateful for that <cheers>

I have to say I'm not really enjoying the idea, if it's true, that we're chasing the same bunch of UK based and 'available' players as the rest of the Championship.

What we've done so far, with our policy of developing lapsed or emerging talent, has been much more interesting and exciting than the usual plodding short termism of the past. I understand some people's wish to 'bring in a couple of players used to this level and push us over the line' but it would be going against what we've done brilliantly so far to a degree.

Personally I don't want a centre forward, a winger, a full back, whatever brought in, at the expense of Mayenda, Mundle, Rigg, Hume, Isidor or whoever. If we do that we lose an identity I've come to admire despite it having taken a while to emerge. The team spirit we have is clear and the players are obviously playing, not only for each other, but also the fans.

I wouldn't want us to lose that for the sake of forcing our way up with the kind of 'buy those just good enough to get us promoted' only to find we've pushed away the likes of Jobe, Rigg, Neil, etc, earlier than they'd have left. Players like them are here because they know, despite their age and experience, they'll be able to play and grow on the pitch. Asking them to 'be rested' while the big boys finish the job would be totally counter productive imo. It's not going to attract more young ambitious players of the kind we now have imo.

We've tried all that before and seen Luton, Sheff Utd, Burnley try it recently and all failed ...

... Brentford, for example, held their nerve, took their time to go up to the PL and look better for it.

I may be being naive here but a desperate chase for transfer window signings, and 'PL at any cost, may end up with a price I don't want to pay.
Agree with what
Just whispers mate. A few of us on here know that there are similar agreements with our better players.
Are the whispers off the players themselves ,staff at the club, agents or players friends

Anyone else think RLBs press conference was interesting. Talking of le fee, essentially said he plays best in jobes role..
