You’d be playing absolute roulette with the clubs future agreeing a fixed fee in advance that one of the fastest developing players on the planet can go for.

It would destroy the absolute fabric of a develop and sell and succession plan model.

To be fair, Sunderland having players to sell is alien to our fans. We've barely sold anyone for a decent fee in my life time. We've always seemed to miss the chance to sell and improve the squad and end up letting the player run down his contract.

It's something we really need to get used to though. It's obviously not as simple as this but I love the idea of selling a player for let's say £25m every season and buying 3 players with that money and repeating the process.

 

This is where people posting as "in the know" cause problems.

There's hints tonight that £23 million is the magic number for Jobe. This will be picked up on and within a few hours will be gospel

Whether there’s a personal agreement with Jobe or not isn’t important really because the fee will be a big one.
