We get who we get or we don’t get anyone else. All these names being linked is just pure speculation. One thing we should have learned by now is that the club are very tight lipped about incomings and outgoings. And that’s a good thing.
Today should be deadline day and we should be 5 signings deep by now and not having to wait until Monday
Swansea signing a lad i like, Melker Widell - young Swedish CM. Intrigued to see how he gets on with the physicality in the championship. Plays with loads of energy and always looking to pass forward and get himself into the box
I have to say I'm not really enjoying the idea, if it's true, that we're chasing the same bunch of UK based and 'available' players as the rest of the Championship. What we've done so far, with our policy of developing lapsed or emerging talent, has been much more interesting and exciting than the usual plodding short termism of the past. I understand some people's wish to 'bring in a couple of players used to this level and push us over the line' but it would be going against what we've done brilliantly so far to a degree. Personally I don't want a centre forward, a winger, a full back, whatever brought in, at the expense of Mayenda, Mundle, Rigg, Hume, Isidor or whoever. If we do that we lose an identity I've come to admire despite it having taken a while to emerge. The team spirit we have is clear and the players are obviously playing, not only for each other, but also the fans. I wouldn't want us to lose that for the sake of forcing our way up with the kind of 'buy those just good enough to get us promoted' only to find we've pushed away the likes of Jobe, Rigg, Neil, etc, earlier than they'd have left. Players like them are here because they know, despite their age and experience, they'll be able to play and grow on the pitch. Asking them to 'be rested' while the big boys finish the job would be totally counter productive imo. It's not going to attract more young ambitious players of the kind we now have imo. We've tried all that before and seen Luton, Sheff Utd, Burnley try it recently and all failed ... ... Brentford, for example, held their nerve, took their time to go up to the PL and look better for it. I may be being naive here but a desperate chase for transfer window signings, and 'PL at any cost, may end up with a price I don't want to pay.
