Mate how the game has changed is barmy. I started at Roker when we cheered tackles as loudly as goals. Now I love a move like that more than anything. I had to do my coaching badges, and I grumbled through them all (not once did we talk about coaching tackling and heading, well heading once but that is a long story). Now I try to just love the game for its beauty. Brazil 82 is my most favourite side, and football in this country is near to that now, and I am pleased.
Last night I spent a few hours with the county FA talking about what should be in the strategy for 24-28, which launches in June. Loads of discussion about how to coach the modern player and the modern child. Lots of exciting stuff too. Some of the stats about participation at 7,8,9 is brilliant and we have so much to look forward to I think. That said there are threats, mainly player and coach behaviour. In the pro game, filtering down. I predict a major change in approach discipline based on last night, appetite and anger is high. Probably for the best too. The game is beaitiful, apart from when players behave ugly.
Sorry, a ramble, I agree we play some cracking stuff. Shame we cant have the odd hefty challenge without 12 blokes demanding the ref overreacts though.
