Is it now time to de-activate the summer window thread. There are now links to our possible January transfer business, including the Ukranian youngster from Chelsea and the Ghanian CD from Scandinavia

Iirc someone posted on Saturday that Swansea had 5 loan players in their team and we had none.
Whatever business we do in January I'd prefer permanent signings as I'm not 100% happy playing other club's youngsters despite how successful Amad was.

5 is too many for me because you become reliant but we should look to try and get 1-2 decent bodies through the door on loan imo.

Of course developing our own players is the most important thing but realistically we’re not going to get a player of Amad’s quality unless it’s on loan and that could be what gets us over the line and promoted.

I don't mind loan signings, but they must be good enough to start and make a big difference like Amad did last season.

Our transfer windows have been interesting and generally successful with very little info leaking out. I think most people appreciate that.

And despite us bringing numerous young lads, many foreign, to the NE they've generally been well behaved and represented the club well.

I only mention that as I think it shows we don't seem to take fliers like we used to. In fact, looking back, the worst problems we've had imo were with British players ... Johnson, Diamond, Rodwell, Grigg, etc.

Our vetting process seems to be working, fingers crossed for the this window.

    Based on current form/fitness:

    OUT
Hemir (Loan - Someone like Derby or Oxford on the understanding he'll get guaranteed game time)
    Triantis (Loan)
Matete (Loan - not totally sold on this, but struggle to see him getting regular game time and he's unproven at this level)
Burstow (Terminate Loan - looks a good kid, but it's the wrong player at the wrong time)
    Bennette (Loan)
Anderson (Just give him to Shrewsbury. Bonkers signing in the 1st place)

    IN
    Striker (with some experience)
CDM (to replace or compliment Evans)
    Left Winger

    Patterson
    Bishop

    Hume Ballard O'Nien Cirkin
    Pembele Seelt Alese Huggins

    Ekwah Neil
    Evans New CDM

    Roberts Jobe Clarke
    Ba Pritchard New LW
    Dack Rigg Aouchice

    Rusyn
    Mayenda
    New CF

The only thing guaranteed in the window is a meltdown on social media.

Always thought it unlikely Man Utd would loan him out in the Championship again. A PL loan makes far more sense

You're dead right mate, some people will be preparing their attacks on the club as we speak.

We were in for a winger late in the summer so expect to see one come in, cdm and I’d like an established striker but they come at a premium especially in Jan so can’t see that happening, main thing is keeping our star players until the summer then we can reinvest when one or two inevitably move on and this model can go up a notch or two! Exciting few windows coming up

If we fail to sign a player, for a specific position, some will say that's always the fault of the club.

I'd say failing to try would be the fault of the club.

The reality may be that the club targeted three suitable players for that position ... one decides the NE just isn't for them, the next wants too much money, the third fails a medical or has other issues not known to the public.

So, what do people want. Should we sign someone we didn't think was right at first, break our wage structure and set a dangerous precedent or jump at someone without having done proper background checks on, etc.

Some players just don't want to play for Sunderland, that's a fact. It's all very well raging that we didn't sign Broadhead or Simms or whoever but we can't make people come. If they're the standard of player we need they'll obviously have other others from other clubs ... sadly, if a wife says 'no' that's usually the end of the idea, whether it's the supporters or the players <laugh>

Aravena, or something like that I believe. He said he didn't want to move in the summer, wasn't there an issue of joint ownership as well?
