Na, it was just waffle. In the next breath he was talking about the games against Leeds and West Brom.
I'd like to see a month or 2 of Mowbray with this squad and the addition of a imposing physical center midfielder. We have an abundance of lovely footballers but we're soft as ****e
i agree with some players he's great with them, i've noticed it's all the British players that seem to love him, but i just think the way he's handle hemir has been ****, start of seasons he didn't play him in the cup game, because we couldn't risk him getting injured, next game he was on the bench and then next Game after that he was in the Under 23s yesterday as-well blaming the cutting, edge and other games always blaming not taking chances, but never mentions how are back 4 are always all over the shop never in line with each to much space between them always one of them out of position , i played as a defender, wasn't a good one but the basics of defending as a 4 is youse have an imaginary string all tied to each over your all move as a unit if one full back goes over the last 3 defenders move over and cover that side and vice versa for the other way like a big axel, we can't even do that , to be honest it's been going on since he's took over, but the results were covering it, a simple thing to try and change a game when it's not going right is switch roberts and clarke around might not work but it's something different and gives the defenders something different to think about, marking roberts all you've got to do is lead him down the line cos his right foot is none existent
I have to say that Evans is a massive miss in our defending. He tied the unit together, picked up the loose balls etc. I think it’s that that we’ve not got sorted. 09 or Ballard step out then leave a hole. A cdm and we’d be seeing a more consistent creative Neil and / or the quality of Ekwah’s wand. I’d sign that before a striker as we can’t rely on Evans fitness in my view. With them two unleashed we might get the balls to a striker. Not saying we don’t also need one of them too mind.i know we tried for a defensive playmaker but it was a massive **** up not pulling it off and it’s cost us with these counter attacking goals.
We won’t be buying another striker. I think we’ll revisit signing a defensive mid in January though, the club clearly acknowledge we need someone there having been in for Crespo. That is unless they’re confident of Evans being back soon and at a decent level.
If I picked the team for the next game he’d be there with Seelt behind him. Not popular this either cos he looks like a greedy sous chef, a disgrace really, but at this point I’d play Dack in the hole between midfielders and striker because he sees goal scoring passes and can score and he might just help get a goal for a striker and build confidence.
Evans has been a miss but to just ignore the cdm position all together is down to the manager and the setup! Ok so the recruitment team didn’t sign one but onien is one yet he’s played centre back. It’s him picking his favourite players regardless of form and shoehorning them in at all costs that’s working against us not the recruitment imo.
Mowbray’s biggest strength is his purist attacking ball playing philosophy. Mowbray’s biggest weakness is his purist attacking ball playing philosophy. When it goes well it’s amazing, when it doesn’t (see board comments)
Not for me. I think he plays better with the game in front of him, he stays at centre half till we have a taller better player.
I personally don’t think he’s good enough on the half turn to play there at this level. Mind, he’s surpassed my expectations by developing aspects of his game to be able to cope previously so I probably shouldn’t discount it. I think Hume has the same limitation and it’s one of several reasons that I don’t like the way we have him receiving the ball off the centre halves in a defensive mid position.
He wouldn’t be my first choice we needed one and the lad from Turkey looked it but from what we have at our disposal now it’s what I’d do. Neil’s threaded passes coming to life would revive us.
I don’t see him talking about losing his job here it’s more the nature of football in general he’s on about. He sounds like he’s still up for it and believes in the players not withstanding a few shots going in, and more of a blip than a crisis. He also compliments the size of the club. Hawawayawayawayawayawayawayawayaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh
This is what I have a significant issue with: https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/s...-mowbray-unsure-whether-sign-striker-january/ The us and them narrative. I can't see that any of that needs to be said in the media except in an attempt of self preservation. What affect does he think it's going to have on the individuals too by publicly saying they're up to it - it's not exactly going to see them play with the confidence needed to succeed. Also if he thinks the only reason we don't look like scoring is because of the strikers then it doesn't bode well for him effecting the change that is clearly needed.
He isn't the first to have a dug at the recruitment. Both him and Neil wanted a more experienced blend, especially in the striker positions.
The club seem to think they can pull a Kevin Phillips or Ross Stewart type "bargain" off. The fact that there was 25 years between picking up a gem for next to nowt tells you how often that happens.
Neil is one of the biggest self-preservationists in the game and the recruitment team here have assembled a far stronger squad (on a fraction of the outlay) than he has been able to at Stoke.
