Don’t get the Tonda hate tbh.

Not his fault at all. He’s been promoted way above his experience and was obviously just going to go for it.

It’s the club hierarchy that deserve the hate. And the players.

I absolutely hated Pellegrino; as he came in and lied about playing attractive football.
Tonda? He’s awful, but I don’t hate him at all.

I don't think it is largely his fault, but equally if we don't see anything different from the Sheffield United and Pompey games he will have to go because imo at that point if he stays we will certainly be on our way to relegation so we will be forced to roll the dice on something and the manager (again) is the easiest thing to change in the short term. The fact we will likely have to make a second managerial change this season is on Spors, but for now it is what it is.

Many of the players are obviously a bunch of lazy entitled tossers with an ego far beyond their capability, but for a brief period they showed a glimpse of what they are capable of and it is enough to get us clear. Bring in someone (with actual experience, an untried concept for us recently) who can jolt them and get them organized for long enough to get through to the end of the season and then offload as many of the problem players as possible in the Summer.

I just really, really, really hope they dont give Martin a deal until the end of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Or would the look for an OGS type person.

Not sure who else is out there.

Knowing SR, the person they are talking to has likely just been sitting their Mock's, such is their thirst to appoint younger and younger.

If they reappointed Martin, the root cause of some of the current issues, I'd stop watching football (or at least Saints) until he was gone. Genuinely. I'd go and do other things with my time.

I think I'd **** most games left off bar the new grounds I have left.

Agree to a point. When he came in, he changed the way we played, to play to the strengths of the players we had and it worked (brilliantly) for a while. Then we got found out. Teams worked out how to play us and he has been completely unable to counter that and we are so predictable. Of course, the players have to take a large chunk of responsibility but the inability (and apparent refusal) to change is so frustrating. Also, he seems to be just the latest in a line of Managers that has his 'favourites'

Completely agree. So predictable and doesn’t have the experience to know what to do next.

But to be honest, there are just so many things wrong with the squad that changing the manager over and over is achieving nothing.

Start of the season I thought we had some passable players for this level, but the longer the season goes on the more obvious it is that probably only Leo and Fellows are consistently good at this level.

Arma & Azaz are OK in bursts, but not able to change games on their own. Same with Jander.

The rest are genuinely performing at league one level or below now, and have been for a long time (apart from Tonda’s ‘new manager bounce’ purple patch.)

We plod on with this awful 5 at the back, passing it about thinking we are prime Brazil. We are piss poor from set pieces at both ends. There is no cohesive style or patterns of play.
It’s absurd stuff really.

I’d like to revert to a more attacking style, 4 at the back, trying to outscore teams. Our defence is ****ing atrocious. So we should absolutely go for it.

Otherwise we might actually go down again. I’ve been pretty negative about the club for a while and even I didn’t think we’d be this bad.

Agreed on all fronts there.

Yeah me too, although I am barely managing to watch much nowdays as it is.

Just wouldn't put it past SR, they have such contempt for us fans.

And surely they are talking to other managers right now, as in I can see us easily dragged into the relegation battle.

I've never been very tactically minded but I do find it amusing seeing people talk about managers imparting different tactics yet to me it feels like the football hasn't changed in about 5 years or so. I remember complaining about backwards and sideways passing under Ralph, Jones, Selles, Martin, Juric, Still and now Tonda, as well as having no strength, easily outplayed, no tempo or pace to the play and zero desire to press as well as struggling to score. It feels like the players, regardless of player and manger change, just keep reverting back to playing that way. Whatever the problems are, it is so deeply engrained.

If they reappointed RM I will not be at SMS until he goes. Will SR care? Probably not.

It's because it's what happens when you find yourself unable to progress up the pitch, especially now going long isn't as popular (or successful with midgets).

Highly doubt it's a phenomenon unique to us.

Surely, you'd think we'd crack the code in that time no? I don't imagine it's unique to us, I imagine we are however unique in the fact it has been happening consistently for years despite numerous changes on and off the pitch.

Ralph was different in that we had the high risk high reward pressing style, it turned to mush as the quality of players deteriorated but it wasnt quite the same sideways and backwards we have now.

Jones had no discernable identity whatsoever, ditto Selles. Players looked like a bunch of strangers with no cohesive playing style visible at all.

Under Martin we had a style of high possession and sideways and backwards passing, he had the quality of players to make it work in the Championship, but it completely fell to **** in the PL.

Under Juric, Rusk and Still it then devolved back into varying degrees of **** identityless football (Still had constant high crosses to our midget forwards I suppose), however the sideways and backwards is clearly much more in force again under Tonda - but much worse than last Championship season.

Although imo the one consistent theme since SR took over with the exception of 23/24 is the force field around the 18 yard box where we pass around the edge for about 5 hours before inevitably giving possession away.

One consistent theme through

Our team of two years ago would batter the current team right now, we scored over 100 goals that season so clearly there was an end product with the possession (the biggest gripe was the amount of soft goals conceded playing out from the back, similar to now).
There is less created now and I believe that a big part of it is having too little options for a player to pass forward to and the ball usually gets recycled back through the defence.

This part is more what I was referring to. It doesn't matter who is in charge but the fact that we have been like this for so many years years with no progression is insane.

I've always felt like that team flattered to deceive, it seemed like many teams we played were scared of us that really didn't need to be and we were found out big time at many points in the season, especially at the end. The season ended pretty bad. And every single time we played a team that were up for it and at us, we lost. Sometimes very badly. Our biggest 'rivals' that season beat us 9-1 on aggregate.

They did enough to get the job done over the season and that's what matters in the end.

Yep, agree again. I do still feel though, that a guy with tactical nous could get a tune out of the squad we have, but, like most on here, I have zero confindence in SR to find that guy.
