Yeah this is why it’s obviously bollocks. 1 of the 6 managers or whatever it is would have said something if they were being told to play a certain way.

What I can believe is that SR possibly hire managers who prefer 5 at the back, rather than telling a manager they have to play that. You could also make the point that the recruitment has been done with 5 at the back in mind so it ties the managers hands to a certain level, although our current squad is big enough to play basically any formation and have enough players to cover that
But isn’t that in itself “interference” (maybe call it ‘influence’) from above. Basically hiring yes men? ‘We’re not hiring you because we like what you do per sé, we’re hiring you because you like what we do’ Either way it does seem that the hierarchy are calling the shots.

I don't think the charismatic bluff and thunder of the old school managers exists anymore in the younger generation of coaches. Almost all of them will come out with some bland middling answer that says nothing and implies nothing just in case.

Also despite knowing the language he's probably having to translate what's said to him and what he's saying from English to German and back to English in real-time which also must be some element of mental overload too. I assume he thinks in German all the time and translates on the fly...

BTW who was asking the questions on the press conference video to Tonda? Seemed a bit more pointed than usual and pressing for a less fluffy answer on why our character has been crap.

Agree completely with your first paragraph, the same goes for players. Media training is standard now at football clubs so 99% of interviews with younger managers (and probably all players now as it’s been around for awhile) will be bland and cliche.

I’ve not bothered with any media interviews for awhile as I don’t think what they say in them is what they are saying 5 mins later behind closed doors so they are pointless. The last one I can remember watching was to see what Martin had to say after we lost to Leicester 5-0 or whatever it was in the Championship

Not really. I think it’s common across clubs to hire managers who fit the club philosophy. You don’t see sides tending to change too drastically from a general play style no matter which manager is in charge. There are some examples of course, Kompany at Burnley springs to mind, but they are the exception rather than the rule

If anything this is something SR have been **** at. They have lunged from manager to manager with completely different styles hoping one will work, which has meant a lot of failed transfers where players were bought for a manager who played one way only for the next manager to be completely different.

If 3 at the back is coming down from above and the managers are being told to play it, then they have done a pretty **** job at hiring managers who can use it well. It’s not like it’s some revolutionary tactic nobody has ever seen before. Whilst we don’t have the perfect squad to play it, we also have a good enough squad for it to have been working better than it has

That bit is obvious <laugh>

I think he’s got away with the fact that again we failed to beat a team that was in the relegation zone at kick off, because it was the Skates and the fact that the players did put in a shift yesterday and we didn’t lose.
But to put it in context, he again failed to beat a bottom 5 team, with his record being 1 draw and 2 defeats, of the 3 teams he’s played.
7 points from the last 27 is no where near good enough. I guess the only positive is that it now looks like he will stick with the 4 at the back, but lose to Stoke on Saturday then at home to Watford, I think it will be hard to continue with him as the noise at St Mary’s will just get louder as we have 4 games in a row after Stoke this weekend at St Mary’s.

Not only lost to relegation candidates but also those teams were absolutely riddled with injuries. He hasn't a ****ing clue

I feel that for all the 'oh he has switched to a back 4' and 'oh we did this well', we forget he is meant to be a professional Football Coach/Manager. This is the bare minimum, and he does it about 2-3 weeks too late. No in game management at all. I genuinely feel put any of us on the touchline during a game and we a would manage it better.

Agree with the above. Surely if Tonda is their man they will support him with a few signings before the transfer window shuts, otherwise it says to me that they know we won’t get promotion with this current manager and squad, and changes will be made again this summer and this season becomes a pointless drift towards the end of another **** season where attendances will drop, and even then the happy clappers will become totally pissed of with this lot?

I definitely reckon I could motivate them better :emoticon-0183-swear
