Does the Deep State exist?

from personal experience it's not good to mix it with everything you get offered, I've collapsed once or twice, lol.

It's a great drug to share with drunk people who are inexperienced with it lol. I used to find smoking a couple of shottys after a line or two used to spangle me.

It's ****ing horrible stuff though. I had a mate with a bad addiction to it who was still pissing blood 6 years after he stopped, caused irreparable damage.

He was sniffing like 100g a week though.

We have checks and balances, Trebs. I accept that.

But what history has proven, time and time again, is that we perpetually walk a fine line between "freedom" and enslavement.

I am not so naive as to believe in "absolute freedom" because that is an impossible ideal. I studied Jurisprudence at Cambridge, and I am very well grounded in the philosophy of justice and politics.

But what I do discern is a tendency for people to bow, unquestioningly, to authority, and to cede hard-won freedoms without any question. That worries me deeply. Freedoms, once renounced, are doubly hard to get back. That's why they are worth fighting for.

You will take an opposing view to me - and I respect that - but I believe that we are no more than two steps away from a totalitarian state. It never sleeps, and it absolutely will take advantage our lapse in diligence.

About 40 years ago, there used to be something called direct action. I'm not talking about extremism, just the fact Joe Public could go to the local town hall and see their leaders up on the stage and shout them down. You could make a difference. Not through spin and fcking focus groups whose views are largely dictated by their prejudices and the bullshit they're fed rather than what they're actually experiencing <doh>

Gradually politics has been sanitised and spin and media control has made the politicians unprincipled and shallow. And it's made the public resigned to the system and apathetic to it all. Then something happened 4 years ago which exploded all of that but we came out of that apathy in the worst possible way, filled with tribalism and polarised positions, all about the win ffs!

I don't want us to go back to the 1960's or 70's btw. I would just like to think we can evolve as a society in the 21st century where modern politics can function with the public having the power to be up close and personal with their politicians and hold them to account.
