I really don't understand why a lot of Sunderland supporters talk down the value of our best players, most other clubs talk up the value of a player. Talking up the value surely helps with the hype which in turn ups the value and make the buying club to come to the realisation that they need to pay over the odds, just like we used to always do, we need to do to others what they try to do to us!

I don't think anyone is talking down his value, more being realistic with the injury and contract. If the lad wants to leave, which is pretty obvious to me that he does, there's not much we can do to stop that so we either get nothing when his contract ends or as much as we can now...which realistically isn't going to be a lot unless we have the balls to stick to our guns and demand a high value...I really hope that happens but I just can't see it.

I'll be gutted when he leaves, if he recovers to the same level as before the injury he will be the best striker in this league. And I'm including all the new big signings that teams have been making.

I just want an end to it as its becoming a distraction.

I'd like to add that if I was in charge I'd be setting one value for the player if he is going to a Championship rival, and another slightly lower one for say Rangers or a premier league team. And I'd stick to it no matter what.

But I know thats not how it works :emoticon-0101-sadsm

To play for Sunderland these days your heart has to be in it.

His isn't imo.

Would people be excited if we were trying to sign a player with a poor recent injury record who's refused to sign a contract for over a year ..

... some would be reaching for the pitchforks <laugh>
To be fair to the lad, we have no idea of he wants to stay or not.

Doesn't want to be here, so quite frankly, I'd be happy with nothing, just to get him away from the club. If he's not happy pulling our shirt on, then I don't want him, simple as really.

As it turns out, I think if we do get £8m for him, that's great business for someone who's been out for 8 month with an injury most players don't come back from and nothing to say he'll be one of the lucky ones.

He's also in the last year of his contract, and probably out for another month.

We almost got promoted last year without him even really playing. We do not need him.

Take the money, reinvest it. No player is bigger than our club.

Trying to bully us, Christ I hope KLD and Speakman stick to their guns and have a minimum value of way more than that.
Thing is Southampton want him with just a few days of the window left we need to be doing a will grigg on them for the fact I'm sure we don't need to sell him he's not on silly wages at the minute, whether he wants to be here or not if we keep him I'm sure he will be professional enough to put the effort in, at the end of the day if he's leaving on a free at the end of the season he needs the best deal of his career.
If he's going to go let's hope we dig our heals in and get what he's really worth fully fit

It's getting closer I'd say. £8m plus add-ons for a lad with 2 major injuries of late wouldn't be terrible business and the 1st significant sale of the "model"

I think most people will appreciate we're not actively trying to sell him ...

... at least we're no longer having to pay people a fortune to leave <laugh>
