Thing is Southampton want him with just a few days of the window left we need to be doing a will grigg on them for the fact I'm sure we don't need to sell him he's not on silly wages at the minute, whether he wants to be here or not if we keep him I'm sure he will be professional enough to put the effort in, at the end of the day if he's leaving on a free at the end of the season he needs the best deal of his career.
If he's going to go let's hope we dig our heals in and get what he's really worth fully fit

Aye good point.

He cost us next to nothing and we have already recouped that cost with him helping with promotion from League 1. It's not like we will be losing money if we don't sell now, we may miss out on a few million in profit but thats not the same.

I don't know the lad so no idea what his personality is like and how he would react to us knocking back bids for him, I'd like to think he would be professional.

We are desperate for a striker of his calibre, so what is more important? A few million quid that we probably won't be able to spend in this window or lose him for free but possibly have the best striker in the league for this season...

It would take a massive bid for me to accept thats for sure.

Usually on the football manager games when a player says they want to leave and I’m forced to sell, I ask my players to go in hard on that player when we come up against them.

Not saying that’s what we’d do, but if I were Mowbray I’d just instruct Ballard to wipe him out. <laugh>

Speakman needs to get on a conference call with Southampton and Everton.

We want Tom Cannon (Everton)...
Southampton want Ross Stewart...(Sunderland)
Everton want Che Adams (Southampton)

Could be piss easy to sort out in theory.

What will probably happen is Cannon will go to Boro, Stewart will go to Southampton, Adams will go to Everton, and we'll be left holding our dick, and no striker.

He's refused to sign a contract for over a year ...

... that's a clue.

He can always say 'no' to Southampton can't he.

He already has a contract here.
The club have to accept a offer from Southampton first, Stewart might say no to them, we have no idea what he wants to do. Same with the contract height still sign it for all we know. Personally I would reject Southampton's offers unless its a stupid offer. He will be impossible to replace this late in the window

His agent will have been living on the south coast since Christmas.

That is a huge reason we should be holding out for a lot of money.

maybe because we already have a replacement lined up, seems funny Southampton were linked a while ago, yet no offer came, now they are bidding, makes you wonder

The problem for me is not if he goes it’s if we have a suitable replacement lined up
Can’t blame Stewart he’s had a potentially career threatening injury this may be his only chance of a big payday. From where he came from potentially life changing I don’t think he will be the player he was so £8m plus would be good business Hopefully we have something in the pipeline. For me has to be someone similar with a physical presence who can give us something different and lead the line

Thing is, we've been without him for that long now, that technically, we haven't had him to even need replacing if you see what I mean.

It's not as though we're losing a player who has scored goals for us this season, or losing a player who even contributed all that much to us nearly getting promoted last season.

For me, we've got nothing to lose by him going, just £8m to gain. Even if he stayed, not only will his head not be in it, but he might very well have glass ankles for all we know.

Of course, already signed and sealed. In the big picture of things Ross Stewart owes us nowt so the club can afford to keep him until the seasons end. Letting him leave on a free is not a big deal in the big scheme of things and he is also a back up just incase.

The club would take 8 mill now if offered though.
