Cant understand how we can bring in a 'proven'/highly rated striker that compares to Stewart, for a similar price.

The prices Champ clubs are paying for strikers is mad - Simms for 8M, eg.

Can understand some logic to sell him only given his injury record and a year left -= cant understand logic of how we replace him with 2 1/2 days to go.

It’s gona be a tough ask and I don’t envy the recruiters one little bit

People keep banging on about going out and getting a proven championship scorer, but can anyone name any?
Cannon scored goals in the championship, so proved he can do it. If proven means doing it consistently over a few seasons, we couldn’t afford anyone in that bracket.
Stewart out
Cannon and Rusyn in and that would be decent business for me.

That's the problem ...

... and the reason we need a recruitment team capable of bringing in the likes of Ballard or Amad on loan.

Posted this OTR regarding Stewart but wanted to share it here too.

I'll be gutted if we flog him.

Not only because he's class but because for me he represents that day at Wembo and giving me one of my best ever memories. Its ridiculous how the contract situation has played out, I don't just put blame on the club for that but also his agent. He could have had months on a higher wage here had he have signed a deal, which would have safeguarded the club into getting a proper representative fee for him too.

Ultimately I think his agent is in his ear and his head has been turned. I get it, we won't break our pay structure and he can make a wedge more elsewhere.

If he goes and we do sign Rusyn then we still need a striker
His agent is the real problem, Stewart was happy to sign, his agent wanted more money and thought he could hold the club to ransom which he couldn't, the deal was set to be signed when he got injured.
It would have been crazy for the club to have still allowed him to sign which at the time would have made him the highest player at the club due to how severe the injury was.
I do not know anything about the situation since then, I'm sure his agent will have been in his ear telling him how the club don't value him and trying to encourage a move away for his own benefit.
I was confident he could still sign due to a few factors, firstly I didn't think anyone would be prepared to buy him, as we don't need to sell cheap, I think its more beneficial to keep him for a season than sell him cheap.
I do think if he came back fit we would be in the mix at the top of the league, this vould be enough to prompt him to sign, although I think he is a quality striker I think his ceiling is mid table premier league which he probably knows he could possibly achieve with us, unlike Clarke who I could understand wanting to leave as he will be a top top player.
Right now I'm not sure which way it will go, I would love him to sign but the club may have a replacement that will benefit us right now better than Stewart and need to sell him to make space, whatever happens this is a prime example of how much damage agents are doing to football

Is it reasonable to think that we could lose Pritchard, Gooch, Stewart and maybe Clarke in this window…

in my opinion, no. Selling players is only useful
If you can bring other players in. To lose so many in the final 48 hours, would need a lot of other Dominos to fall into place. We might see one big money exit but I don’t think it’s in our interest to sanction two. If we lose stewart, Clarke has 3 years left on his contract and we’ll keep him unless an extraordinary transfer bid comes on (like 25 mil).

I wouldn't have mentioned this but I was told exactly the same, word for word, by someone I trust.

It's entertaining gossiping about the games and ruses the club are playing but I don't believe they are one bit.

This is part of the reason I've written him off and don't think he's part of the team spirit any more. We've supported him through an injury that cost us PL football and he's only thought of himself.

I'd rather he left now.

It’s tough, because once someone does well, a Prem team or foreign team will pick them up. Likes of Akpom or Gyokeres.

Suppose that leaves the likes of Will Keane, Jerry Yates who’ve been in and out of the league but always scored some goals without setting the world alight enough to get a big move.
