Possibly mate, mind you I'd rather we kept him for at least this season.

Going to be an interesting few weeks with incoming and possible outgoings
Me too made, I'd love to keep him longer he will be a top player, unfortunately it will be a couple of years before we are doing that, I do think if it's done right in 2 or 3 seasons we'll be signing £15-£20 million young players with the potential to sell for 40 million, its just the start of the journey

It won't be a 9 million profit, as I think spurs have a big sell on clause, although I could be wrong
If its 20% like has been reported then out of 15 million, they get 3 we get 12 minus the 3 million outlay leaves 9 million profit.
That's just going off numbers reported, don't think any of us actually know the real figures

I don't think the club are desperate for the cash but everyone will have a value we would consider selling. That money will get reinvested into the club
There’s another side to us looking to get top market value - I think that you’ve got to consider how the player feels. If we turn down a bid of say £16 million and Clarke ends up staying, he could be unhappy as it might look like a good offer in his/his agent’s eyes. We could be seen as stopping a player moving to the PL and progressing. Others already here and potential future players would take notice.

The club may have partly attracted players here with the promise that we won’t stand in their way if they progress quicker than the club and an opportunity to step up comes along.

You need to factor in the rise in cost for standard players over the last 12 months as wellas the sell on clause. Seems like bang average players are going for over £3m these days.

This is why we will be asking for a large amount probably closer to £20m. And that’s exactly the right thing to do.

Replacing someone of Clarke’s calibre would likely cost way more than £3m
The club seem to be developing a knack of unearthing players with potential that are ate a club where its not working, we need to remember Clarke went to spurs for 10 million, that's why the sell on clause is high. No one else was really that interested in him when we signed him, we've paid a very small outlay for jobe yet his potential could be huge, we paid low fees for a lot of the foreign lads who have massive potential. We seem to be picking up players no one else is too interested in, if we can keep doing that then the fees will probably stay quite low. As soon as 2 or 3 clubs are interested the the price escalates

Really important point this I reckon mate. It is isnt about Clarke being unhappy, but it is about him being allowed to progress if he feels time is right for him. If we blocked a move he fancied, for the sake of a million quid or so it could easily backfire and be much more costly over the next 2 or 3 years if players, or worse agents, see us as a club who hang on to players too long. Not saying we should have our bellies tickled, but we should have a degree of longer term thinking around this too. I am sure Speakman gets it. I wouldnt be surprised if he goes personally, and probably short of £15m but with a couple of add ons, so long as it is a hefty up front deal.

I read a old article saying they had a 40% sell on clause, could be ready rubbish though

I still think we’re way short currently. A decent squad with the majority being young lads. Not confident for the season ahead. Felt the same last season though and I was surprised at how well we done - hopefully the same again.

He will come back into our side, score 25 league goals and we will go up as champions. The move to Stoke was agreed but Alex Neil walked out on them to join Watford (their 3rd manager of the season) on the 28th December, having been seen in their directors box for the boxing day game. He signs a new contract with us in the prem, scores 20 league goals and moves to Spurs for £35m aged 29 and we have a 40% sell on clause. Just guessing mind...

Well that's no dafter than some of the information bandied about on here to be fair.
I know it's a chat forum but do we have to all guess the same scenario from 20 different points of view.
When somebody has a scarf picture at the AOL then by all means let us all know.
Sorry for the rant it's been a bad week in the Cumbrian household.
