With us always being in communications with Caen despite them holding strong you knew we thought we’d get it done.

news has broke from France we’ve upped our bid (quite a lot aswell) from the initial. It definitely gets done

It's a really weird place we find ourselves. We were all brought up on the 'sleeping giant' patter. And yet we've all seen disappointing - and sometimes pretty horrendous - times in the main. I feel it myself. I'm watching us at 3-0 up and thinking 'if we just make it to half time without conceding then we should be able to hold out for the draw at least'.

The issue with all of this is that it pushes many fans into weird contradictions. Truth is we've never been a properly big spending club in the lifetime of pretty much any of the fanbase. And it would be a stretch to describe SAFC as a genuinely successful club in that timeframe either. So where does the expectation that leads to accusations of 'penny pinching' and 'lack of ambition' come from? And how does that expectation chime with the way many tend to feel during a match - that SAFC will always find ways to disappoint? The faster we can come to terms with what we are as a club (a fantastically well-supported underdog) the more we can meaningfully contribute to SAFC getting closer to it's potential IMO.

Completely agree. If he and our other young lads play every week and we make our mark in the league this season,....the world will open up for them.
That's the deal....they have nothing to lose. If you're Jack, why would you go to Leeds, when another good season with us could offer you a contract at a top 10 PL club.

I think it was mainly that they found an identity as a campaigner against dangerous owners. Whatever the reason they soured on Madrox, they were proven absolutely right to have done so. Problem is, they've struggled to reshape that identity when the existential threat to the club's existence has completely evaporated. Their attitude to the club is now completely disconnected from performance on the pitch, financial health and overall club viability. They're stuck looking for windmills to tilt at.

Couldn't have described it any better Brainy.
Watched it at home and after our third goal you could have heard a pin drop in the stadium the remainder of the first half, even Sky commented on it.
I said earlier in the thread it wasn't until the last 15/20 minutes I could actually relax as I was waiting for that kick in the nuts.
Your right our fans need to exorcise our past short comings and start believing in a fresh new dawn cos the last four years have been exceptional under KLD.

At about 30 mins, the lads around me were all in agreement that "if we can get to HT without conceding we might be alright"

    I love being a Sunderland fan :emoticon-0140-rofl:

I was not relaxed at half time. As soon as the 4th goal went in it was like the biggest release ever.

Good post mate. Even the build up to the match is not what it could be imo. Wise Men Say is a fantastic come together for all of us.....but why is it so short.....why can't it go on for another couple of verses. Look at Liverpool,"you'll never walk alone" goes on for many minutes and intimidates the opposition,no doubt!
Why can't we do that with WMS?

Same. I was desperate not to concede though - 4-1 or 4-2 would have taken the gloss off it for me. I love a clean sheet

The thing that impressed me was how we were working our socks off in injury time at the end of the game

If we do get a new striker I hope it doesn’t knock Mayender’s development, this lad could be some player for us.

Do we really need Benson? Roberts look superb so far imo.

Can have some quality in depth for the front 3 if we get Mendy & keep Clarke.

    From right to left:

    Roberts——Mendy——-Clarke

    Or

    Poveda——-Mayenda—-Mundle

Mendy as main striker takes a bit of the pressure off Mayenda. He can be an impact sub at times, play some other games to give Mendy a rest, or possibly even play alongside him in some games.
Where that leaves Rusyn is another question...

Its Mayenda's spot to lose imo, if he keeps developing like he is then Mendy or whoever comes in is going to have to play at a high level to get in if Mayenda does keep kicking on
