The irony is Gooch was pretty much let go so that we could bring Pembele in. And I have every expectation that Pembele never starts a game for us.

Gooch would have absolutely been worth keeping on around the squad this season, even if just to release him on a free this summer

Seen off. Same as Pritch. Shame. Glad he has come out and used unequivocal language.

Aye young players couldn't have learnt how to train from him if he is crocked and not training!

If we needed experience we needed to be buying better experience than those they let go. Only Stewart is huge miss but as he is injured he would be a miss still even if here!

I agree with his general point about lacking experienced players, who doesn't, but imo if the players he mentioned were still at the club we'd not be much better off if at all.

Gooch bang on here

Sat here trying to find a fault in that but no can do.

The height comment is interesting. Sounds like that was a thing they thought needed to resolved. Wouldnt have been a target area for me at all.

We miss Gooch and Pritch in my opinion. Know how and like pressure release valves on the pitch, whether winning free kicks by holding the ball, or arguing with the ref to slow the game. Dark arts.

The Newcastle game was a stark lesson in having a team full of midgets. They were bigger and stronger and dominated physically from minute one.

I loved Gooch, but his time had come to an end here. Everyone saying this and that about him, yes fantastic servant for Sunderland bleeds red and white, which is true, but let’s be honest, he was poor at the end. Look how poor he was here when he came back up here. Same as Pritchard, In my opinion of course.

Height does not equate to strength and physical domination. Much of 1v1 domination comes from mentality. Ekwah is a prime example, built like Viera but doesnt have the mentality to compete for a header in a tough situation. Hume has the physical mentality and worth more as a result.

15 years ago we stopped prioritising height in this country, would hate to go back to that.

I agree about Gooch but Pritchard? Nah, he’s definitely a miss imo.

I like that cooper. Proper handful on set pieces as well. Sure he’s their captain.
Is he the t**t that kept on falling to the floor when we played them earlier in the season, trying to win free-kicks and penatlies? If it is him then no. Who was the Leeds CB that cannot get a game and we have been linked with him previously (I liked him).

I agree with most of that from Gooch, but the Stewart sale has turned out to be good business on our part, and it’s not like Ross was jumping to sign a new deal here.
