Call me old fashioned but just read the echo there saying we are after a head coach rather than manager. I hope the manager is still going to have a say in transfers

If its done properly both the technical director (or whatever the title) and the head coach/manager sit down and talk about what's required and which player would suit the position. Communication is an odd concept at this club but it might just work! :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I like the idea of this guy bringing through young players and working with the academy etc but as james hunter has pointed out we have been down the route with di fanti and congerton and it didn’t work.We ended up scraping it so big sam could come in.I still think getting the manager right was the most important thing.
Unlike the previous 2 incompetent berks this one looks like he might know what he's doing.

Think it will be along the lines of everyone collaborating with each other, scouts, data lads, manager, etc to see which player we actually go for. I think Liverpool have nailed this approach to their signings as Salah wasn't Klopp's first choice so it isn't always the case the manager knows best. You need a good team bringing information together from different places to ensure your signings are going to be as little a gamble as possible.

GOM and few other over road saying this rules out Cowley hopefully so
Was thinking that by all accounts the Cowleys like to have full control over everything

Really like the idea of creating a structure at the club then fitting a coach in to that structure.
Make progression and change much easier than a new manager ripping up everything and start again

Worked pretty well for Barcelona over the years

That's true about the previous attempts..... but Di Fanti was just the wrong appointment and both of them were working under remits to simply cut costs and scrape by.

By the sounds of it this guy is all about the long term ethos and plan. Hopefully this time we implement it better (and hopefully combined with a takeover means we're not simply cutting costs but running things intelligently, maximising the academy etc). The system makes a lot of sense when done properly. I'm all aboard because the club needs gutting from top to bottom and an entirely new approach.
We also tried to do it with a old style managers which is never gonna work otherwise your director just becomes a chief scout that answers to the manager.

Hadnt Coleman left Wales before coming?
Think Bruce was still employed by Wigan when he was approached?
Coleman was still Wales manager.

And yes, Bruce was still employed by Wigan at the time we approached.

I suppose this guy from Birmingham for the technical director is the compromise on both our points - not a name but people are looking into his background and are being impressed by what he's achieved. Therefore it's affecting the imagination and people are getting excited by it. Now the easy part of getting a head coach that can do the same! :emoticon-0102-bigsm
Definitely, I think this is a fantastic appointment! To me, it shows that Donald etc aren't controlling things and so we can be a bit more certain that whoever the manager is will have been picked by the new regime.

I agree completely, however having someone decent developing the kids is imperative IMHO.

Upthere on RTG, who seems to be reliably ITK, is saying that another role has also been filled by someone. So that would be two people, Speakman being one, in technical roles above the head coach. This sounds exciting and very well planned.
I've heard the managers position will be filled today and between Cowley and A.N. Other but no idea who that is. So nothing to report really!

Upthere across the road reckons another 2 coming in, dof and someone else.

this is his response from someone who asked about speakman

“Above him. DoF and someone technical but unsure on names”
I don’t know how you could get 2 above him mind unless a chairman is sorted

Interesting so sounds like he won’t be the man running the show as predicted, interesting to see who it is, and no before anyone panics I dont think it will be charlie :emoticon-0102-bigsm
