Like people have been saying, I think this appointment is key. I get that we will all have disagreements about managers but getting the right ethos at the club is imperative right now. Hopefully we can just find a manager that slots in with this new Technical Director. Praise seems to be very high for him.
That's the way to run a club innit. As you say when the club is stable and successful you can pick and choose which players you do sell. We're lucky to have a good academy because it ties in with this plan.
No, we're learning from how some of the most successful clubs operate now. We keep chopping and changing the manager, leading to changes in ethos, style, etc. which then means the next manager is stuck with the previous managers players. If we appoint the right Director at the top of the tree, then appoint managers who are happy to work in that system, then it could be very good and makes a lot of sense. It's new for us, but it's not like the old system has worked very often.....it also works very well with trying to get more from the academy with a clear path into the first team enforced from the top. When the DOF model has failed in the past we haven't given them a long term remit and managers have been given false assurances. This time it sounds like things will be clear from the start.
I saw a link to Monk yesterday, can't remember where as I just dismissed it. Got me wondering now though.
That Speakman looks canny like, never heard of him but it looks like he's done a class job at Brum helping to develop youngsters. 18 players through into the first team is really good going. This is definately an appointment I can get enthusiastic about and is a massive indicator to me that Don isn't calling the shots. Be class to think we'll have joined up thinking going on at the club and have an actual plan moving forwards. Good news to start the day with.
Mate, he'd still be pissing and moan if we were in Man Citys position, same goes for a couple more over the road.
It’s gonna be a left field, foreign appointment isn’t it, used to working in this type of model. bet it is someone not even mentioned so far.
Hadnt Coleman left Wales before coming? Think Bruce was still employed by Wigan when he was approached?
I like the idea of this guy bringing through young players and working with the academy etc but as james hunter has pointed out we have been down the route with di fanti and congerton and it didn’t work.We ended up scraping it so big sam could come in.I still think getting the manager right was the most important thing.
I suppose this guy from Birmingham for the technical director is the compromise on both our points - not a name but people are looking into his background and are being impressed by what he's achieved. Therefore it's affecting the imagination and people are getting excited by it. Now the easy part of getting a head coach that can do the same!
That's true about the previous attempts..... but Di Fanti was just the wrong appointment and both of them were working under remits to simply cut costs and scrape by. By the sounds of it this guy is all about the long term ethos and plan. Hopefully this time we implement it better (and hopefully combined with a takeover means we're not simply cutting costs but running things intelligently, maximising the academy etc). The system makes a lot of sense when done properly. I'm all aboard because the club needs gutting from top to bottom and an entirely new approach.
