He gave the ball away in the corner and then pulled their guy back. Personally I wasn't happy at his playacting after and there doesn't look to be much of an elbow from the highlights. Still love him.
Great to keep a clean sheet last night, there's a real resilience to this team. Not beautiful last night but determination and motivation from us. Wheeler is looking promising. Not sure I'd give Cousins a starting place on his present form - but that's me being picky. These two last wins might just kick start our season. Players are coming of age. Now let's see good away form against Forest.
Interesting highlights. After Sylla scored I was waiting for the whistle assuming Sylla had fouled their keeper - hard to tell from PU. Comedy of errors from their point of view. Half the Blades look like rugby players! Connor should have squared it and Mackie might have done a little better. I think the highlights slightly flatter us, but only slightly.
From where we were sitting (the other end of the ground, admittedly)...Sylla looked to be nowhere near the action, and I was completely dumbfounded as to what had happened. To be fair United made absolutely no attempt to blame Sylla...It was very clear he was not involved. He just did the sensible thing, when no-one really knows what was happening ...he put the ball in the net. It was a funny game. We really did not let them settle into their game...The press was amazing. Interestingly...they came out in the second half, with increased vigour, and began to get a grip on the game.....and I could not see how we would hang on for 45 minutes. We started calling for subsitutions (Wzoleck for Cousins, Smith for Sylla (the ball was mainly in the air....and our midfielders were losing out to their giants). Ollie did make changes for those players...but bought Furlong on for Cousins, Mackie on for Sylla. (Manning for Wheeler was much later)...and to be really honest, it did settle the boat. By 75 minutes I was beginning to get confident we would see it out. We had more and better chances than they did, even though they were obviously more desperate than ewe were. Got to say Baptiste, Robinson and Bidwell are playing as an amazing unit....long may it go on. The addition of Lynch back on Saturday...can only be a plus. As said in another thread...at this moment to my mind, Ollie has a decision only to make on one position (Cousins, Wheeler, Furlong, Manning???...with Cousins the man in position). I hope no-one picked up a knock last night Smithies XXXX Baptiste, Lynch, Robinson, Bidwell Freeman, Scowen Luongo Conor, Sylla Happy times in the QPRBeth household
Has to be Furlong. I don't see the need for Lynch to start. Robinson and Baptiste both played well and it gave us another wide option in Wheeler which helped free up Freeman. I felt more comfortable with the defence last night than any game I've ever seen Lynch play in.
But Lynch, had by far his best game ever for us vs Wolves. It is a good/bad position for Ollie to be in
Hi Stan....obviously I wasn't on the forum last night, but reading through all the comments at midnight when i got home....you were very ebullient, may I even say merry. Yes we ******ing won. See you at Villa!
He fouled Brooks, seemed a nothing for a card. But then Brooks punched him in the head. Surely a red!
I’d only had a couple of ales officer. For some reason I really did need us to win last night. But the requirement will be even stronger against Forest. It’s about ****ing time.......
Sylla was actually pushed in the back by their defender and stumbled past the Keeper to where he was when the Keeper spilled it to him. The dedender went on to impede his Keeper.Thought it was a pen but that Ref wasn't going to give us anything.
I had a feeling these results were not too far away. We have seldom got what we deserved in the last half a dozen games and possibly another 6 points or so which would really put us in the mix. The reason I am not surprised is the general team spirit, fighting for one another and the badge....we cannot ask for much more and which most of us have been craving for 5 years.........and hopefully this will not disappear and that is the best thing. As for lucky goal etc etc etc....well if in football luck is supposed to even out we will get one of those every game for the rest of the season!!!! ( because lets face it we are not a lucky club). However, I feel lucky that I support them at this time and not just because they won but I feel things have changed......the squad is young, players that would not be playing if every one was fit are playing well and in my eyes should keep their place. Olly, Birch and the imo the vastly underrated Fleming are working well together. I like the way he has used Smith and not just started him which usually means we forget to play football and the way he is actually playing players in their correct and favoured positions. There is no reason we cant push on now. We will lose a few but I honestly think a play off place is very achievable and with a few to come back fit to add to the squad.... but most importantly join with the mentality and desire of the squad. Looking Good....
I haven't been to an away game yet this season but having seen all the home games I can't for the life of me see why we aren't doing better on the road. The midfield press has been hugely effective at LR and has totally rattled most opponents (with the noticeable exception of Millwall who countered it with an even more physical press of their own) and would seem even more suitable away from home when teams try to be more expansive. Is Holloway simply being too conservative away from LR I wonder? Any chance of a change at Forest on Saturday having seen two really effective performances at home?
