yeh lens’ sporting director left on Friday but apparently that has no effect on Still. a lot of “apparently” in every story tho at the moment.
Not sure what to believe anymore mate. I know how far we were with still, hence my confidence previously. I’m pretty sure it could be salvaged if we wanted him enough.
feels to me we’ve been outbidded pure and simple. Not a surprise seeing their budget is like 7 times ours
There is a reason for this though, the trouble is a lot of fans don't want to see it as they are either oblivious or it does not suit their narrative. We as a club have had to buy young as we had hardly any academy players of note, and were almost stripped of our Cat 1 status. The club have had to build up those foundations to allow the club as a whole to flourish, the first team for the last 2 seasons has in effect been an U23 team with a couple of older players sprinkled in. You don't rebuild from the first team as all your eggs are in one basket you have to put in the foundationd to allow the club to flourish which I believe they have. Look at results for the junior teams or even the Women's team and you can see progression within the club. Hopefully this year their can be a more concerted effort put into first team affairs as we now have stable systems and a strong foundation in place.
He may not be, but he's linked so it's a talking point so i'm making my feelings known about him as a potential head coach. Like I said in my post I just want us to be fun and interesting. The 22/23 season under Mowbray was one of my favourite seasons as a SAFC supporter and that wouldn't have changed if Millwall pipped us to the playoffs because we were just so good to watch. Will Robinson bring that feeling back? Not for me.
Potentially mate. I just wouldn’t be surprised to see another twist (cue Robinson announcement in the morning)
Sad state of affairs if the recruitment process leads to someone and they have to say hold up, the fans will react because they dont like him / think he is groovy / is from foreign shores. I wonder, if we had the internet, would we have welcomed Reid? I doubt it. If, and it is a big if, they have decided Robinson is the best we can attract I hope they do it. I just hope if they do it they back him more than they did Beale. Appoint a coach, ride the rapids, and give them time. Personally, I am still pretty sure Still will be here next week. Not that I think he is a good fit, I think he isnt. But like I say, if the club think he is the man he needs backing and time. Maybe, for some reason way beyond my comprehension, Still will be allowed a bad run of form from some of our fans that Robinson wont be. Anyway, Craig Bellamy may be available soon. Anyone keen? I would be quite intereated by him personally.
Honestly, no i don't think he does. He is better with experienced players and the job from st mirren to us is so big that i think he would struggle I heard he wants the hibs job so i think his agent has put this rumour out there to try n put pressure on hibs
it’s a sad state of affairs but it’s unfortunately true. The way the fans reacted to Beale, whether it was justified or not, was embarrassing. Most of my mates would call it “typical” for Sunderland fans. That’s what it looks like to the outside footballing world. repeat that shenanigans and it just further amplifies our reputation and makes every future appointment and signing that much more difficult. Why would coaches come here if fans react how we did before, twice in a row? And I strongly believe that what we as a club need right now is a figurehead to get behind. That’s half the battle.
This. One of the reasons he hasn't followed Vinny to Munich is because he's very invested in Burnley and is well liked.
Lampard is bookies favourite, just seen some reports today that Bellamy has 'support within the club', whatever that means
Same, I’ve been off for a week so they’ll probably not be impressed that I’ll just be refreshing forums for updates
I know what you're saying mate and agree with your views. It's not your post in particular but it's tiring seeing so many posts saying 'if **** happens, this is how furious I'm going to be'. The club have, seemingly, vigorously pursued one man and received plenty of encouragement ... ... but people are predicting how the club will be 'useless' if they appoint a variety of different people. Sorry if that's a bit of a ramble, I have a hangover that's easily in my top ten ever
Don’t know much about Robinson but to me I’d be more disappointed with him being appointed than I was with Beale which takes some beating. 2 years ago he was at Morecambe, in a league 1 relegation battle with a 25% win rate. Sounds like he’s doing a really good job at St mirren but awful records at Oldham and Morecambe, I mean no disrespect to them clubs but actually can’t believe we’ve even been linked with someone who worked at Morecambe 2 years ago (and didn’t even do a good job). Maybe it’s arrogance/delusion but I’d hope we’d be looking at way above him. This isn’t always a good way to look at things but for any candidate I think would teams we are competing with want them? Would Norwich/Hull/West Brom/Boro to a lesser degree Leeds/Burnley even consider him? I really don’t think so.
