Will Still still thinks he is playing the game of football manager, playing clubs off against each other. At least we've got Stephen Robinson to look forward to. :emoticon-0114-dull:

As soon as it became apparent that Still was playing games, I wanted Maric, I wouldnt go near Still now, I know next to nothing about either of them :)
I don’t know anything about them, but if some people do it would be nice if they shared their knowledge.

Don't understand why we haven't made contact with Wagner. Maybe we have but maric, rosenior and Wagner would be a better fit than robinson

I still think it’s very unlikely. But after spending some time researching him rather than just looking on Wikipedia, this Stephen Robinson doesn’t seem as bad a shout as I thought this morning. Massively over performed at St Mirren despite the low win percentage. And plays a style of football we would enjoy.

But he would 100% result in the same reaction as Beale and for that reason it absolutely cannot happen.

I’m still holding out for Maric

To the majority of fans he would be seen as another “yes man”, someone on the cheap taking a chance at a bigger club so likely so do as he’s told. The fact he has done OK on a limited budget will also set alarm bells ringing and screams of us not investing again. The optics around our head coach appointment are massive after the Beale carry on.

Although it would be a pretty uninspiring appointment I’d get behind the bloke but he would be in for a bloody tough ride right from the start from a percentage of fans.

Can I just correct a few things for RTG as they seem more concerned with how many pages they're clocking up.

First the new Nice manager was agreed and announced days ago by l'Équipe, Franck Haise 3 year deal.

Second, no one on here has said anything about St Mirren's players being told their manager is leaving, they're on holiday.

Third, Scout73 is a football scout who knows people at football clubs.

Lastly, someone is wondering why Still is favourite to come here, with the bookies, when 'he has an agreement with Rems' ...

... no idea what Rems is or why Still would have an agreement but if he means Reims, he left them at the end of the season.

They've all lost their minds over there <laugh>

I find the term "yes man" an interesting one. I'm self employed, but when I contract at various companies I have a "boss" who asks me to do things and I do what I'm paid to do. Does that make me a yes man? Is being a yes man a bad thing? Are we all supposed to rail against authority to prove we are our own man?

If we hire a Head Coach who says yes to Speakman and gets us promoted whilst doing so then ****ing brilliant.

it’s a sad state of affairs but it’s unfortunately true. The way the fans reacted to Beale, whether it was justified or not, was embarrassing. Most of my mates would call it “typical” for Sunderland fans. That’s what it looks like to the outside footballing world.
Most of mine wouldn't have called it typical for Sunderland fans. Most were surprised by the reaction to Beale (and thought the reaction to the bar was over the top). The reaction to Beale wasn't justified (and this idea that anyone who didn't want him has been proved "100% right" also has a huge caveat against it) but is, as you rightly say, embarrassing. It's caused the club two potential problems: 1. The fanbase will now believe that they can get any manager they disapprove of removed. 2. It could cause any manager the club try to appoint to have misgivings about taking the job.

repeat that shenanigans and it just further amplifies our reputation and makes every future appointment and signing that much more difficult. Why would coaches come here if fans react how we did before, twice in a row?

And I strongly believe that what we as a club need right now is a figurehead to get behind. That’s half the battle.
Have a feeling I’ll be in a tiny minority here :emoticon-0102-bigsm but I’m going to disagree with you here to an extent. When it comes to the Beale situation where a tiny amount were reportedly booing him in his first game I find ridiculous as well as the personal ****e he got.

But I absolutely got the mass frustration (me included) when he was appointed and his tenure went even worse than I could have even imagined. If it’s someone like Robinson or of that ilk I think the frustration will be the same and although it’s harsh and unfair on the new head coach, I think it would be directed to the hierarchy rather than the coach and to me it’s absolutely justified.

I don’t think our fan base has a poor reputation at all if I’m honest. We have high expectations, maybe unreasonable at times but I do think the fans base as a whole has been more than patient for a long time with not a huge amount of success. I don’t see why a head coach or players are ever going to be deterred from coming here because the fans have been pissed off with previous managers or players. Can’t imagine a player based in London or France thinking **** going to Sunderland they get on their players back, I just don’t think that’s the case at all.

Honestly, no i don't think he does. He is better with experienced players and the job from st mirren to us is so big that i think he would struggle

I heard he wants the hibs job so i think his agent has put this rumour out there to try n put pressure on hibs

Yes, this is the zeitgeist in this country currently.

Are you actually? On what basis is Bellamy interesting?
Been with Kompany since before Burnley. I know a couple of coaches who have seen him work and they say good things. His attitude as a player was agressive and winner. I just have an inkling he may be a coach that will lead from the front and be a front foot man. His stock is reasonably high inside of the game, be an interesting watch...
