I enjoyed the Middlesbrough announcer introducing our Portuguese sub last night as "Vinegar-ee" - as though he smells like the stuff that goes on your chips.

Furlong hasn't made the bench the last couple of weeks, and Matty Jacob was on there ahead of him at QPR, so my guess is that Furlong has really failed to impress.

I hadn't noticed that, Matty quite impressed me in the cup came he played a while back, I know he's been out with a bad injury, maybe we'll see him against Brum instead (in which case, Furlong will probably be going out on loan in Jan).

Can't recall the last time we scored from a corner....ahh, just a minute, was it the Macca connection/OG vs Baggies...Last night was well worked, Morton to the corner of the six yard box, Greaves flick on to the back stick, Delap loitering with intent.....Hard to defend against. May it be the first of a few more.

That's still being dropped and I don't really think Allsop is that better. The criticism of him still stands imo. He struggles with his positioning and judging the flight of the ball in an obvious way that looks comical at times. He's delayed dive against QPR which looked all wrong and the second goal against Watford. He's also not immune from one or two dodgy moments playing out from the back every game as well. I think we could've done a lot better than Allsop in the summer and I'm still not confident with him as our #1.

Let me re-phrase, the suggestion that 'Ingram was dropped for a lot less' implied that Ingram was dropped for doing something wrong in a game. All I'm saying is that he wasn't dropped for a mistake.

Vinagre might get a run at some point, but he's unlikely to start on Saturday. He was out on his feet after 15 minutes yesterday. Can't see him being ready for 90 minutes just three days later.

And I think Coyle playing there is less of an issue than people make out. He can put a good ball in with his left foot. He's really not one-footed like some players are, and full backs playing on the opposite side to their best foot is increasingly common these days. Rosenior mentioned that he wanted the natural left footer for a specific tactical reason at the end of the game, but that isn't always the case. João Cancelo made a career of being a right footed left back and it's happening more and more.
It’s not his crossing that’s the issue PLT, it’s when we play out from the back he controls with his right foot 9/10 so is facing backwards. He needs to be back to right back as soon as he can.

I'm surprised that so many people who hate players playing out of position think that Vinagre on the wing is the answer to it.

I have absolutely no doubt that if he started there and it went wrong, people would complain that he's a left back and shouldn't be on the wing...
I doubt anyone is seeing him as an answer, but for certain he's a better, more logical temporary fill in for now until our proper wingers are back. Match fitness is likely an issue, but doesn't that come from playing?

I know it's not just about crossing, but the quality of the crosses he can put in with either foot shows that he's not one-footed. He can play inside or down the line if he wants to. If he's playing it inside a lot, that's probably an instruction, and it's probably for the same reason that other clubs are using full backs on the "wrong" side more often these days.

I dont think we can remotely compare Coyle and Cancello..

He should also have held the other one in the previous goal mouth scramble.... pushed it straight to one of theirs. As for being good with his feet, some good longer kicks last night, but one absolute suicide ball direct to one of theirs about 25 yards out central.
Jones hit three long balls from deep straight to their defence nowhere near a player , and the pundit gave him mom ? Goalies can’t do it but defenders can ?

I suspect Vinagre will continue to be used as a sub but to come on to play further forward, as he did to good effect last night. Don’t think he’s fit enough to start and last for 60 minutes.

I am really interested to see how we do through this set of fixtures. Last night showed signs of being able to win when we don't play well. We'll need more of that.
