different systems suit different players. With world class players you can be effective with anything, 4.3.3, 4.5.1 or even a bog standard 4.4.2 Regarding teams like ourselves, 5.3.2 makes sense. An extra body in the box to defend and an extra one in midfield to cope with their midfield. The two upfront is key so we have a goal threat when we do get the ball. Rather than all out defending playing for a draw like last time !
People saying 'yes' to Rosy and 'no' to Mouyokolo on the other thread, from my point of view they are both players of similar ability in their positions, Rosy was lucky to get a second chance after being dumped on the scrapheap for not being up to standard. If you say yes to him then you should think twice about writing off Mouyokolo
To be fair he didn't have a club when we picked him up and was training in a park, he's proven himself which goes to show never write players off or be too judgemental about younger players
The one thing that definitely is happening, particularly at the top level, is that two man central midfields are on the way out. It's a shame because a straight 4-4-2 can be a really nice attacking system and sometimes teams playing 4-5-1 or variants of it can be so crap going forward (look at us in second PL season when we seemed to be miles better whenever we played 4-4-2 but PB never had the balls to stick with it). It makes it all the more important to get hold of a proper all-round centre forward in the mould of Lambert, Michu, etc. who can play up front on his own.
And the required level of fitness and movement from the attacking 3 is exactly why Mancini constantly bemoans Nasri. If the player in that role doesnt run his balls off becoming a second srtiker or winger then the whole system fails. The attacking flair player used to be seen as lazy but that just cant happen now.
the heart says yes, the head says maybe, i say give him a role in the squad but make sure we sign a proven pl rb just in case
On the old 606 (those were the days) I was saying sign Rosy months before we got him, in a similar vein keep him for the Premiership ,and for once Trumper has made a good point in that we will be getting at least a few more players to cover that position and for the other flank if he struggles to cope again. If Celtic let Mouyokolo go he is certainly worth a trial and with a manager of Bruces defensive stature and knowledge he will see the player has the ability potential and physicallity for that league, you judge a player by what their ability is not how many games they have played.
i fuly expect us to play 4-5-1 for most games with maybe a 4-2-3-1 every now and again. very few teams play 4-4-2 these days. i trust bruce to not be stupid enough to plat 3-5-2 in the prem!!! its painfully clear to see the amount of hole and just general flaws it leaves defensively, we got away with it the championship we wont in the prem against actual quaility opposition, especially the cms and wingers they would have a field day picking out all the holes and explointing them all day long!!!
There are two ways to look at all the current squad. 1 - Will the current players challenge the teams and players which are top half of the Prem? Obviously the majority of our points will have to come against teams that are in or around the bottom three, so does it matter that say Rosie will not be able to match up against say Mata or Hazard? 2- The question is can our players match or better there oppposite numbers when we play teams that are in or around the bottom three? This is where players like Rosie have to be at least as good if not better than say a Norwich/Wigan/Cardiff ect. player. If you look at it like this Rosie, McShane, Faye are good enough in my opinion. We are not going to compete player for player with the top half people need to remember that when writing the members of the current squad off. Our battles will be won against the likes of Stoke, Norwich, Wigan, Cardiff, WBA ect.
Remember, I was the one that made a sensible post and you insulted me for no reason whatsoever, then back it up by calling me a moron when I get a bit testy about it. It's not like we have any history. As I've said in the past, there are too many keyboard warriors on this forum, who act like ****s for no apparent reason. In your case there does appear to be a reason though.
Well, I don't regard someone who slags Joe Dudgeon off in a post as being very sensible. Your entitled to your opinion just as I am to tell you your'e a prat for holding that opinion.
I really like Joe Dudgeon and hope he is our first choice left back next season. If I recall I said he looked a bit ropey in defence at times early this season as he was getting forward too much. That wasn't really opinion as it was moderately obvious to anyone who was actually there and paying attention.
Damn yes ! Because weve played a 3 5 2,this season, people seem to forget that before us,Bruce was traditionally 4 4 2. And Rosienior is the best right back in the championship.
