Whilst I get that, There was more than one occasion on Saturday where it needed a keeper to simply come through the traffic and stick a fist through the ball. You do that a couple of times early on, the strikers think twice about being so keen to get there and . Set out your stall. I do think that's what it needed Saturday.

The first goal looked a comfortable save to me. While there were a number of mistakes leading to the shot, he looked like he left it to go wide and it didn't go wide! That, to me, is absolutely his fault.

Second goal I have no idea what he was doing. Yes they had an extra man but he literally sat down and said "there you go fella" - He might have made no difference but he certainly didn't make it difficult.

A la Oliver Kahn :)

Burge has had endless combinations of defence to play behind and that always makes it difficult to establish the good communications that are vital. With this style of play he's also being asked to take a lot of passes to his feet and distribute the ball, that puts extra pressure on a keeper.

In the last few games our full backs have allowed far too many crosses into the box.

People have been calling the first Gillingham goal a big error from Burge. I've watched it back and there are a series of errors that lead to the goal. Despite the danger of throw ins we put the ball out, yet again, for a throw in, the headed clearance is poor ... we've left the same player unmarked on the edge of the box for the second time in minutes, Scowen turns his back on the shot.

The ball comes through a crowded box and our defender is playing someone onside right in front of Burge. Their player gets a nick on it and it evades Burge who seemed to have it covered.

He's not a world beater but I don't think he's the basket case some are suggesting. Once we have a settled defence, with proper full backs, I think we'd accept Burge as a decent keeper.

On Saturday we allowed far too much pressure, on our defence, and not enough time in their half. Whatever the case, imo, Burge will be our main keeper this season and I think we have more important issues.

I thought Burge looked good tonight .....

Both absolutely ****e. Still rather have Matthews in goal personally though. We should be going all out to find a keeper who is a free agent. We will not be anywhere near the play offs with these liability’s in goal.

I really don't see that tbh.

I do, not knowing when to come for it or stay on his line is Burge's main problem and that was neatly reflected in Matthews tonight. At least in Matthews' defence he's not had the run of games that Burge has had to get his eye in.

I haven't seen Burge play as poorly as that, it was terrifying.

4 goals for Wyke and 2 pen saves from Burge

Imagine saying that a couple of months back. Well done lads <laugh>

I don't think Burge put a foot wrong yesterday, one save from Akins was top class.

I think we should concentrate on the rest of the team ...

... just let him settle and become more confident.

So do you reckon we’ll get a championship or premier league keeper to come here? No point another league 1 keeper signing as Burge has the most clean sheets and best clean sheet percentage in the league and has conceded the least goals in the league. LJ is all about the data so I doubt he sees it like you do.

p.s. he’s also in the top 5 for save percentage.

Clean sheet after clean sheet, what more could you want from a keeper?

He’s starting to look much more like the keeper I saw when he first signed and Jon McLaughlin got injured! Might be the settled defence in front. Looking back at my comments on here, my opinion has completely changed!!

You’d be hard pushed to find a keeper with a better record in the EFL. 17 clean sheets from 28 in the league and 19 from 32 in all competitions. Add to that 3 saves from the 6 penalties he’s faced and he looks a very good keeper.
Hes doing well and was excellent against Tranmere but I think he is our weakest link. There were occasions last night when he was so indecisive at coming for crosses. He has zero presence. He is terrible with his feet as well. I'm glad hes keeping clean sheets and not making glaring errors but I'm still not convinced by him

A few people looking a bit silly now. As predicted, he’s been class lately.
well it is a forum of opinions and not everyone has the same view, i had a good chat with Mick Sterbs about Burge and enjoyed it, come away thinking canny lad, you get to see the other persons points of view, i was a bit silly and had a bit of a heated debate with Nacho over points of view , another good poster who does some very nice posts, not everyone will agree with him but that's what the boards for different perspectives. Since you came on this board i find your view refreshing and point out things other people don't notice, I could but wont put up posts of what some have said which would make them look foolish but there is no need for that, at the end of the day its just words for a chat agree or disagree, its no reason to fall out over a difference of opinion. As for me i enjoy your posts and points of view even if they differ from mine sometimes
