Are you still saying nothing inappropriate is happening in the Uk in the LGBT scene ?

Your right. The LGBT community is not absolutely 100% perfect. But which communities are? Why is there any responsibility to the LGBT community to act any better than any other community - they are people like everyone.

There’s just something a bit strange about being specifically offended by drag acts being a bit edgy, compared with the countless horrendous sexual crimes committed in society, some which are even committed by heterosexuals!!!! Nobody was harmed in those 2 clips (the drag act in school and the tampon thing).

I’m much more concerned by the sexualised stuff our kids can access in social media quite freely. I regularly witness teenagers on public transport watching porn, sometimes horrendous rape scenes, on their phones, which normalises sexual violence to whole groups of people - let’s focus our anger on that!!

Could you explain what's inappropriate about that? Or is learning about your biology before a certain age 'inappropriate'?
It did look quite **** mind you (I didn’t listen to it though)
And you could have someone’s eye out with the sharp end. Health & Safety nightmare.
Expected bigger crowds in Norwich though…

*If it was Norwich. Dodgy account to trust I think.

I'm still curious about the odd perspective of tampons being sexual or inappropriate. Should kids not be aware of hygiene products for some particular reason?

It's definitely a bit weird to throw them out like that, but it's not like it's vibrators or strap ons or anything like that.

I find it wholly inappropriate.

If I took a couple of my youngest grand-daughters to an event and some 'crackpot' started throwing tampons around like confetti I'd be ****ing livid.

And on the biology subject, yes,I find that unnecessary and inappropriate too.

They're 5 or 6 years old

Inappropriate in what way?

What are you 'exposing' them to by explaining what a tampon is used for?

I wouldn’t be livid, but it doesn’t seem a good thing to do to me I must say.
Bit pathetic really

Good post. Like you, I'm happy for people to live how they choose, as long as they're not hurting anyone, and also like you, I know a fair few gay people that will have little if anything to do with Pride as they feel it has been hijacked and works against them.

I was in town on Saturday, and saw a few bits of violence, which was ironically different members of the pride community against each other.

The queue for taxis was longer than normal, and the driver I got said that it's because a fair few other drivers did not turn out on Pride event nights due to the trouble from those involved, and he was clear that it wasn't straight people picking on gays, but in fighting among the different factions.
I would seriously question the judgement of a taxi driver that feels unsafe around people at a pride event compared to picking up a gang of coked up lads at 3 in the morning on an average Saturday night in Hull.
And why aren’t gay people allowed a bit of Argo amongst themselves. Do you have to be heterosexual for that?

In the same way as you obviously find it appropriate?

Question...Do you have children or Grand-Children of that age?

I'm asking that because I'm heavily involved in their (my Grand-Kids)upbringing,obviously to assist their parents in their working lives and I've got a reasonable idea of what stimulates them in terms of education and play.

Talking,or broaching the subject of things that will happen in later life ie periods is off the list.Full Stop.

I never said he felt unsafe.

Do you really think the best person to explain to kids about tampons is a man in drag (who will never use them in their intended way), dressed as if he’s covered in blood? In what way does that help young women overcome the embarrassment and shame they feel over a normal bodily function? Hint, it’s because periods start with puberty and are associated with all the bodily changes and growing awareness of sexuality. Plus it’s messy, painful and involves interacting with private parts in “public” places like school toilets, rather than at home. There’s already a problem with teenage girls skipping school every month because of embarrassment over periods, so yeah, lets teach young boys that it’s a fun thing and they can take the piss and chuck tampons at girls on the rag.

in other words Syd, misogyny.

I never said he felt unsafe.
But you said it was because of the trouble. I assumed he felt unsafe. You get trouble every night in a city centre, why would a taxi driver avoid trouble specifically at a pride event. Maybe it wasn’t the trouble that put the driver off…

That's the problem with making assumptions. You can then make the mistake of building your own false narrative on incorrect ones. :emoticon-0105-wink:

This was at Norwich pride, two days ago. A festival celebrating LGBTQ+, full of happiness and joy. If I google this and it isn’t front page news on the local newspaper, that will say more about your sources than it will your concerns. Because one singer, on one stage, at one pride event, does not represent the entire LGBTQ+ community any more than the likes of Jimmy Saville or Fred West represent the cis community.

Again, no, this isn’t happening in schools.

Cis is an awful, unnecessary term.

It's interesting to observe people try to defend its use, while at the same time claiming people's rights to self determined pronouns.

That's a pretty disappointing attitude. I would hate to think my daughter felt embarrassed or unable to broach a topic with me about her body because I've previously expressed horror or disgust at a bodily function. Each to their own though I suppose.
