This Spain team are very impressive. It is not just thay they are the most attractive side to watch but they are so well coached and organised. There has been a move away from the tika taka style and they more direct. Particularly in how they switch play. What I really like though is how calm they remain. They keep playing. Their defensive lines are so good to. It is interesting to consider where their coach has come from. U19 and U21 to 1st team. No club mgt. Our FA wanted to do this with Southgate but had wanted him to have 1 more tournament at that level hence Allardyce getting a 2 year deal. Then of course Southgate stepped up early. I would not be surprised at all to see Carsley take over this summer when Southgate steps down. It is a good model at international football to follow as continuity is so good, players and coaches almost progress together. Far better than lurching from 1 club manager to another who cant make the switch.
Maybe setting my sights too high. Not sure I’ve seen more than 2 shots second half. First half was superb, second, for me, has been poor Spain players love falling over! Just got a free kick for Running into someone ffs
Looks to me like Spain are choking the game and hoping they get a breakaway ... ... but relying more on their defence to keep France out.
Probably going to look daft saying this because truthfully I had no idea who he was before this tournament and you’ll have a better understanding but surely if he was any good a decent club would’ve came in for him? He’s been in youth set ups for ages!
Sometimes coaches are better suited to international football imo. Club football very different. This fella looks to me tailor made to the international environment. He will have coached some players at u19 and u21 and now full level. Coming in from club football where you play 2 games a week to international must be quite a transition. Bottom line is this looks a very well coached side who are really together.
