The oddity of football is he could have resigned after the last Euro final and bagged a big club job on a lot more money. Even odder he could have been sacked after 12 months, got a pay off and landed another job. Irony being he probably would have been far wealthier had he left England 4 years of even 2 years earlier. That all said he wont short of a few quid. I used to park behind his nice big motor at St Georges, so reckon he is doing alright
https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-news/gareth-southgates-beautiful-375m-north-20973691 Lives in a £3.75m mansion outside of Harrogate, I reckon he's doing alright.
southgate did ok but the slowly slowly type of play never sat easy with the public, maybe we were missing something but from the 'regular armchair' fan view we had a good squad that was capable of more attacking play. some brave calls were made to miss certain players out but would they have made a difference with that style of play? southgate can walk away with his head held high imho.
I hope they don't go for Carsley but the truth is they probably will. I mentioned on another thread a while back about English managers and how a lot of them seem to have adopted this 2 holding midfielder's set up which I can only assume is something being lauded around St Georges park as a great set up. Our own coached adopted it here and there are a lot of things about it I do not like especially with England. Is it just the manager or is it the FA who have convinced the manager and anybody else who goes there for courses and badges that this is the way to win??? I remember when Southgate took the job 8 or so years ago the promises of picking players on form, but I also remember him saying publicly that we have to emulate teams like Italy and you cannot win big tournaments unless you play defensively. I wish he had watched some of the brazil teams. Southgate deserves credit for putting the England team back on track but IMO he was too defensive and not able to respond tactically in enough games, England had no killer instinct in this final which is exactly the problem in the last final. My last thought on Southgate is which premier league or top club would have him as manager, I would hate it if he was given our job but of course that is only my opinion would anybody like him to have the Sunderland HC position???
On the night he was onside as Stones knee was just in front but it was a computer generated image from that offside tracking technology they have. Looking at a few stills of the actual players and the foot looks further forward than it does in the cgi shot!
The best team won whatever the case ... ... we won the WC1966 because the Russian linesman made an error. Swings and roundaboats mate
Well before my time but at least it was human error in real time without tehcnoglogy and getting to watch and re-watch the play at various speeds from numerous angles and still give the decision the way of the big team ....sorry I meant make a mistake like in the Premier league! Best team won 100%, best team in the tournament won aswell. Won all 7 matches so well deserved. As much as I would have loved to see England win it I wouldn't have exactly enjoyed the matches I watched them in!
