All speculation, but I think when we were bidding £9m for Odubajo and Gray, it was in the belief that we were about to agree a deal for Hernandez, I also suspect the £9m included £1m in add-on's, so we were probably £1-1.5m off Brentford's valuation.

I wouldn't read too much into Bruce's comments about keeping Hernandez, he's bigging the player up if he stays, while pushing anyone who wants him to get on with it.

The reason I don't think we wanted the loan, was we paid over £9m for him, we'll have paid at least a third up front, probably with another third this season and a final third next season. We're desperately trying to flog him for £6m so we get him off the wage bill, while also clearing our fee commitments on him, otherwise we still have to fund those fees.

Hull City employ well over 100 staff (players, coaches, management, office staff etc), yet I believe that currently 10% of our total wage bill goes to Hernandez and Jelavic. It's no wonder we want one gone before adding another.

I appreciate that can you make a decent case for slinging a bit more at the job with the potential riches on offer next season, but I can also see a decent case for not doing so.

I do not think that this is too far of the mark, I think itwas the timing of the deal and not the money.

Yes it was. They just lined up in 2 banks of four and lumped it up to their big striker. Nothing happened in the first half other than the referee playing them in and McG having to make a save.

They were far quicker around the pitch than our players, they were just crap at shooting and the final pass, until they scored.

Hayden's performance might be being inflated a bit by the fact he came on late when most would have been exhausted by the heat. Same perhaps for Abel, although his attitude was the main positive.

Yep, I don't disagree with any of that, in fact it's pretty much in line with my thoughts - throwing more money is a gamble, but it could of included Hernandez on a loan, as we would have recouped some and, possibly, given him a foreign window to exhibit the talents SB bought him for.

But it is what it is.

The others were slow from the start though, changes should have been made much earlier.

If a club plays a match on saturday the manager should analyse the play on sunday looking at individual's play and play in different areas
On Monday the manager should talk to the individual players about their performances
Tuesday to Friday there should be work on different areas of the pitch both defensively and in attack

Sam Allardyce just pointed out that possession isn't important it's what you do with it
Steve Bruce seems to think differently

It's bang on! If you want a new car! You sell the one you've got if you can't afford to run two!! Or four if we're talking about strikers?

But you also ensure you have a new car lined up before you sell the old one, otherwise you run the risk of spending weeks walking everywhere!

You line up a new house before selling the old one, so that you don't end up homeless.

But you exchange contracts before you move.......

But if the buyer of your current house pulls out then you pull out of buying your new one.

Or possibly end up with 2 homes and a hell of a lot of carrying costs and the possibility of having to sell the original home at a reduced price.

Happens all the time. Ever heard of "bridge financing" ?

And those people aren't 'doing something wrong'?

Anyone who has any financial smarts will ensure they aren't ever in a position where they're obligated to purchase the new property before the old one is sold.
