Exactly like the Rhodes deal?

You mean, exactly like the one where the entire football world was scratching their heads at the lunacy of paying a ridiculous fee for someone who was largely unproven?

If that's the case, I agree.

Exactly & then he's proven at Championship level & we are in the prem, but we won't cough up the extra £1 million because he's unproven at PL, but a couple of million less for unproven Abel H & everyone's going mental about a great signing, a few months later, (Jan window), everyone is going why didn't we sign Rhodes for the extra million?

If the reason was to stick within an affordable budget, I'm more than happy.

By all accountsBlackburn seemed to say the offer was acceptable but he just wasn't for sale full stop, but even if it was an extra million (we bid £12m didn't we?) that would hve meant no Diame.

In hindsight, probably not a bad thing. But after Arsenal away? Who would have claimed we would hve been better off getting Rhodes instead of Abel and Diame.

If Gray is entitled to any form of loyalty bonus, he may himself be able reduce Brentford's asking price. It would certainly demonstrate very strongly his desire to come here.
Bruce wanted Gray and Gray wanted to come. City wouldn't sanction a deal until another player had been sold.
Sorry, just catching up on all this. That doesn't make sense to me at all. If that was the case, then why did we ever put a bid in for him in the first place? If it's true that we were only £500,000 below Brentford's valuation (and I'm not sure if that was reported or not) then that makes the decision to not meet their fee very baffling. Or did something else change that I've missed?

Because we thought we were selling a striker.

I don't believe we walked away from this deal over £500k, I think the main reason we didn't go for him was the need to shift another striker first, but regardless of that, I think the gap in the fee required was much more than £500k.

There were a great many on here who wanted us to cough an extra £1m for Rhodes, rather than buy someone we'd never heard of from the Italian second tier.

Ok, just saw this after I posted. Yes, we can all speculate about what happened behind the scenes but no point dwelling on it further now.

I'm not sure what you expect from a midfielder but Meyler is perfect, especially if he can maintain his Weds night performance. On Wednesday night he was sensational, he did everything we've wanted a midfielder to do.Tackled, passed (accurately) linked midfield with attack. As far as performances go it was the complete performance.

not sure about the complete performance.but he was exceptional first half.he tired second half, which was to be expected.if he can keep that up it will be a fantastic bonus for us.cant wait till september 2nd and fingers crossed we keep most of our team together.shame about gray but too many cooks can spoil the broth and i think we have enough up front.keep them all involved.team spirit is essential, its what got us up last time.

Really hoping we can can now hold onto what we have. Bring in another keeper and hopefully get Livermore back earlier than expected and we have a strong squad for this level. Not too worried about bringing in a striker as it seems Luer is a good prospect. Need to hold firm on deadline day and hope no one activates any buyout clauses. Be top at Christmas and offer new contracts without buyout clauses so long as the players are confident of promotion.

Dare to Dream!

Oh OT, I suspect the people crying over us not signing Gray play too much FM or FIFA. As OLM has repeatedly said, we simply can't buy until others are sold.

Plus if they don't go, jobs a goodun anyhow.

Oh and Burnley have spent too much, and will finish mid table and we're gonna do the double over the ****s this season. FACT.

If we end up after sep 1st with jelavic, hernandez, akpom and aluko as well as young greg then we will have by far the best forward line in the league ... Add snodgrass diame and possibly livermore to come back then at least till jan we will have a good premier league outfit (if all fit) let alone championship team.. we already have the best defence in the league...

We need to sign another centre half though in case Dawson gets snapped up.

We should spend about £7m getting someone top quality in.

I think people are going to be disappointed with the squad we are left with come the 2nd September.

I'm more pissed off about Meyler getting his cock sucked again by Bruce because quite frankly Meyler is so ****ing ordinary it's embarrassing watching the **** pretending to be a decent larker. For the last time,we need another keeper, midfielder and ship out at least two of our so called strikers for one young, hungry type with some pace up front, preferably one who can hold it up while our midfield get forward to support play.
