Maybe you like watching a game in total silence with no crowd noise but I don’t. If only they could make it standard where you could have just the game and no commentary. I don’t need someone to tell me a ball has gone out for a corner and who has passed the ball to someone else.

You do if you're listening on the radio.

I remember Andy Comfort saying that all the presenters had to reapply for their jobs, Im wondering if Burnsy thought **** that, he is 65 tomorrow I think, and maybe he thinks he’s either better than having to do that, he is, or thought, I’m not bothered and spend more time seeing bands or whatever.
Pity it isn’t last in first out and then stumbling Bob/Kofi would be out on his ear.

That's more than a bit ****ty. BBC seem to be scoring completely unnecessary OGs at the minute

At what point are they going to make a TV license optional so people can choose whether or not they subscribe to their content?

It is optional. Cancelled ours years ago. Don't be fooled by the threats and fear tactics, they've no right to even be in your garden. 2 years or so after we cancelled they sent a goon. I told him to 'get out of my garden before I throw you over the fence' adding in some less polite words. They've never been back since and wrote a letter a few weeks after the visit stating they had marked us as not having a licence. There are tons of videos and guides on You Tube on how to deal with them.

When the money dries up we might bet a decent BBC again as they will be forced to drop the nonsense and concentrate on what made them such a fantastic organisation a couple of decades ago.

And if you're blind?

You don't even need to go down the blind route for his point to be ridiculous. There are plenty of times where I watch a game and I don't know exactly who every player is from a distance, so it's very welcome to be told by a commentator who has done his homework on them all. It's absurd to pretend they've got nothing of value to add.

Except when its Sam Matterface. He surely never adds any value to your viewing? That guy is one annoying mother funker.

How do you managr at a game without someone telling you what is going on? The OP's original point was ridiculous-that a commentator is good value because they are nice to look (surprised he wasn't pulled up for sexist remarks by PC Yoast)at and if you don't like their voice turn the sound off.

Do you read what the discussion is about before posting asinine comments?

Yeah I read what you were saying and thought I'd interject on behalf of anybody who has the game on in the background while doing something else, has sight issues or getting into the game as a new fan.

Asinine. Yeah, ok. You keep arguing against something that's been around since the late 30s <laugh>

I think it's completely irrelevant whether it's good value or not. You're forced to have a TV license and I can't remember the last time I watched something on the BBC or iPlayer, yet I still have to pay for it, therefore for me, it's shockingly bad value.

If I cancel Sky or Netflix, they don't come knocking on my door, do they?
You viewing history must be ****ing **** if you can’t find stuff on the BBC to watch, a Below decks fan are you?
Attenborough stuff, sells worldwide for huge amounts of money, you’ve never seen it?
Only Fools, Porridge shown constantly on Sky, you’ve never seen those?
Match of the Day, Tennis, Cricket, Rugby League F1, all original BBC, you never watched those.?
Happy Valley, Line of Duty, Killing Eve, no?
Your either a click baiting liar, or you watch **** reality dross on Channel 3, 4 and 5, cos if they do away with the fee, there will be very little original content, just reality **** with adverts every 10 mins.

You are so naive Jim, do you really think the BBC can regroup without a licence, once it goes that’s it. Have you ever watched Yank tv, hundreds of free channels showing **** all day long and a few dozen very expensive channels showing the good stuff, Sky wanted to put my package up to £69 a month, that’s nearly 6 months licence fee, and that was without Sport and Movies, someone on here pays over £100 a month for Sky.
Anyone who doesn’t have a licence and says they don’t watch any BBC programme is a liar.

The part you're completely missing is that different generations consume content completely differently and Match of the Day is the perfect example. Why would I wait until the program when Sky put the highlights on Youtube? And I can see the goals on Twitter about 2 mins after they've gone in.

I haven't had my TV aerial plugged in for the last 5 years or so.

What about those wearing esr defenders?

There have been live games on TV since the 1930s?

Sky used to have an option of crowd noise only, and it was loads better than suffering the commentators making the same banal comments and cliches.

It was. But Steven and PLT seem to think they are essential. And are missing the point it was Hellmand who said that a commentator was worth it because he thinks she is a looker and to turn the sound off if you don't like her voice. Funny they didn't have a go at him.

If you can't see the screen, then yes they are. Unless you think live Braille commentary would be a worthwhile endeavour?

The BBC is nothing more than a government mouthpiece in the most part. I'm not paying for that, those lot get enough from me in income tax, corporation tax and god knows what else.

We watch very little on TV if anything. My missus works on the trains and her shift pattern is all over. I work all day and if she isn't in I work at night too or play PS5. If she is in we might watch something on Netflix or just put music on Spotify and have a drink and talk. The kids don't really watch TV either, they are Netflix, you tube or gaming.

I won't lie and say I don't watch the occasional BBC thing, but it is not even once a week, probably more like 2 or 3 a month. The Apprentice I like, can't remember the last thing I watched in the BBC other than that.
