Well, you are over the top. We need a Fulwell surge in the Roker end. Away fans wouldn't matter then. Not sure I am in this case. It’s horrific, doesn’t help having the away fans where they are

Not sure the current owners would be aware of the previous atmosphere before the away fans were moved. The reason for the move, and the costs and upheaval to move them back maybe big factors in the current stance of leaving them where they are. I'm sure it was mentioned at a previous supporters liaison meeting?Away fans at the back of The Fulwell End will always matter . . . . 'cos it's ridiculous and we all know that it has ruined the atmosphere
The club must know this, and I don't know why they don't 'fix it' so that the atmosphere that we were famous for has a chance of returning![]()

SUNDERLAND will use the pain of their Leeds United heartbreak as motivation in the remaining months of the Championship season and haven't yet given up on automatic promotion, with captain Dan Neil saying: "We're certainly not done!"
"My message would be let's stick together," said the midfielder.
"Let's have a right good run at these last remaining games and, you know, what will be will be and we'll try on the pitch to get the best possible outcome for everyone.
“If you looked at the start of the season and you said that we were going to be fourth with 15 games to go and still with a chance of getting automatic promotion...like I said, there's twists and turns yet to come in the season.
"Obviously, the way the season's panned out, we probably should be in a little bit better position in terms of automatic promotion. But if you looked at the start of the season and if you look at last year, how we finished, you can see the hard work and the effort that everybody at the club has put in to turn last season around.
"I'm proud of all the boys, all the staff this year of what we've achieved so far. But we're certainly not done.
"We're certainly going to give our absolute all in these last few games to get the best possible outcome.”
Emotions were understandably raw in the away dressing room at full-time at Elland Road, so Neil and his fellow leaders in the Sunderland squad were keen to let the dust settle before holding a more detailed debrief at the Academy of Light.
"All the lads were hurting in there," he said.
“When the emotions are so high at the time, a few lads spoke, but I think we have to wait until the emotions have calmed down.
"We have to speak about it because these big games, in the second half we have to find better ways of dealing with that pressure. I think we're such a good team in possession that we could have got up the pitch a lot better.
“But all the lads are together. We've got an unbelievable togetherness in this team. I think you've seen that all year with the character we've shown to come from behind in a lot of games.
"We're going to stick together. We're going to look at this game, and the remaining games are all cup finals. We're going to be prepared.
“Everybody needs to get behind each other. Whether it's players, staff, fans - all associated with the club. All these lads love playing for this club. And we'll do anything to help this club get to where we all believe it belongs."

Suppose it depends how we’ve played. Pointless staying if we’re 3-0 down.I see Neil mentions "fans"...
Who's staying to the end on Saturday to applaud The Wizards off the pitch?

Its one of the worst in the country currently, can hear a pin drop most of the time. Not having a go either as I’m part of the crowd
It's almost as if there are 40,000 individuals that make up the crowd with 40,000 different lives and are not all the sameI never sing, leave early and never throw plastic bags.
Pick the bones out of that.

Away days have nearly always been better for atmosphere. There is that us against them mentality of being in a smaller group wanting to outdo the bigger group. I have always preferred away games, as an attending fan.I've banged on about this for a good while....the atmosphere at our home games isn't as good as some would have you believe.
Numbers don't necessarily equate to atmosphere. I've been to hundreds of away games, when we were 2 or 3 thousand, which created more atmosphere than 40k at home matches.
I totally agree, Roker Park was a shrineAway days have nearly always been better for atmosphere. There is that us against them mentality of being in a smaller group wanting to outdo the bigger group. I have always preferred away games, as an attending fan.
I am going to sound like a miserable old fart now but the SOL has never had the atmosphere of Roker Park. In my opinion anyway. Every clubs fans, of a certain generation, say it was unreal to go there. I think modern all seater stadiums are a bit too sterile to be honest. I think back to some Roker Park atmospheres and still get goosebumps. Some of the games in the 80s against our friends from the other river were magic. When the big boys came to town we gave them something to think about. I remember Liverpool coming and Hansen saying after the atmosphere was impossible. Like many the one that maybe stands out was the Chelsea replay in the cup 92. The ground was clearly knackered by then, but man that night was unbelievable. Chelsea has plenty up and made some noise, but I was in the Fulwell those days and I honestly think it was better in there that night than any of the mag games I have beem too. Ears rang for a week and voice was totally done. Those were good times.
Tremendous night of beer and football. In those days we drunk in the Cliff. At the game was one of the last two seasons at Roker as there were four of us in the main stand seats Roker end... even they were on their feet when Armstrong buried that header.Away days have nearly always been better for atmosphere. Which is of course the sensible thing to do.My Dad struggles with his knees and general mobility. We wait until most people have left the ground before we start the journey home
I wish others would follow your exampleMy Dad struggles with his knees and general mobility. We wait until most people have left the ground before we start the journey home
I think we were in the Howard at that time for pre match bevvies. We were in the Derby for a long time, but moved to the Howard around then I think. It was a special night and when that header went in it was unreal.Tremendous night of beer and football. In those days we drunk in the Cliff. Agree with your comments about sol being a sterile experience. Hopefully they are working on improvements
Depends on how the game pans out. As long as every player on that pitch gives everything they can then the result is meaningless in terms of whether they deserve our applause at the endSuppose it depends how we’ve played. Pointless staying if we’re 3-0 down.
Good to hear.Well Well Well
