So where does he fit in?
(Except in every game so far this season?)Can't hurt. Our lads couldn't score in a brothel ATM...
So where does he fit in?
He is back up in case Defoe gets injured or a plan B option. That is all.
How about we change our limited one dimensional setup? We've got a back to goal centre forward and multipule players who can play CAM. We've also got a CM who can pass a ball, 2 if the Hoff is fit. We can stop being so utterly and frustratingly predictable at long last. The tactic board is our oyster.

Good points.
I feel we'd have taken all 3 points, at Southampton, if we'd had Anichebe to bring on at 1-0 up.
He'll cling onto the ball until he gets back up or draws a foul ....... either way he's an attribute if used properly.
And despite what many think I believe he's score goals, how the Mags can laugh when they've had the likes of Riviére etc
Whatever the case we need to give him a proper welcome when he comes on for the first time.
Time to make other teams sit deep, especially at home. I want us camped in the opponents half at home this year. There's old formations back in fashion
Bring back 2-3-5.
That's the 5-5 formation isn't it? 5 forwards(wingers, insides & a CF) and 5 backs(half backs & fullbacks)
Would be fun to see two modern teams play it against each other.
Jesus dude, get some imagination. We've the players now so we don't have to spend 90 minutes under wave after wave of attack and you want to keep things the same? Bloody hell, I'll be mortified if we do that. So predictable and easy to play against. We've got a back to goal forward and 3 who can play CAM, why not try playing in our opponents half with a defensive line that isn't on the edge of our own box for 90 minutes?
More teams are playing 442 than there has been in a long long time thanks to Leicester. There's old formations back in fashion usable against other 442 set ups. there's three at the back as we're low on wingers and two very very capable attacking wingbacks. We've got options mate. Balls to the same old **** different day imo.
This why building a squad is so important, so you have competition, options and the ability not to be so transparent.
I for one hope to see Moyes installing a new look Sunderland now the window is closed. Sick off the old ****. It's was ****e.
I just don't see him as getting in the first 11, plan B yes as stated when it's not working change it. I just think we have far more talented options in Defoe, Khazri, Januzaj and Watmore. If those options are not working then we change to plan B and bring him on as another option.
Just my opinion of course. If any of us knew what we were doing we would not be on here discussing it but earning a living coaching. I am extatic to just still be playing every week and not be a crock.

Whilst ivgetcthe pints about him giving options I totally agree with you, he's been brought in solely as back up.
He will get a few minutes here and there to rest Defoe, maybe they will play together for fleeting parts.
This isn't, despite the possibilities, a signing with tactical mastery from Moyes behind it.
My point is he should be utilized as and when needed. I've not said at any point he should be considered ahead of anybody, my thought also extends to Januzi or Khazri(which is why I mentioned them) playing in the hole to suport Defoe. Just saying were not forced to play the same way as we have been doing. It would be daft to continue to do that cause it was ****.
Why have have plan a,plan b etc when we can have a few plans and pick the one best suited to beating our opoanant? This is my point. It's not a matter of so and so ahead of so and so. That couldn't be further from my point.
And I did say I get the points, although I will go back and correct the spelling!
I'm saying I don't think that's lead Moyes train of thought in anyway, it's a body in.
Hopefully he gets for and does add value and is indeed used in that way, I completely agree that the ball coming back at us costs us dearly. The defence has been and will be very good but there's no team on earth that can maintain that total focus, error free, for the sustained periods of pressure we've allowed ourselves to come under right back to the Bruce era.
We need to press higher and retain the ball better, we do that well when mackenbauer is fit as was evident in the excellent end to last season. Defoe simply doesn't have the strength and energy to keep the ball for endless periods after 70mins.
